sony xperia z2 tablet unboxing (6 of 16)

Although the Sony Xperia Z2 has yet to arrive in the United States, at least Sony fans will now have the opportunity to grab the Xperia Tablet Z2. The tablet Z2 is available for pre-order through Sony’s website as we speak, with an estimated shipping date set for May 4th.

At MWC we noted that the tablet had rather impressive specs and was a solid improvement over the original tablet Z, unfortunately it’s also a bit on the expensive side at $499 for the 16GB Wi-Fi only model. So what kind of specs does $499 bring you? The Xperia tablet Z2 is powered by a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 CPU with 3GB of RAM. Other specs include a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200, front-facing speakers, a water/dust resistant design, an 8.1MP camera and Android 4.4 KitKat.

If you’re unsure whether you’re willing to pay such a premium price for the Xperia Z2 tablet, you might want to check out our unboxing and first impressions of the device.

So how about it, anyone planning on picking up the Xperia tablet Z2? Conversely do you feel that the tablet Z2 is priced too high, despite its high-end build quality and cutting-edge specs?

Were it a 64GB device, I’d bite. But it’s 16GB…It’s maybe worth $230, like the Latest LG GPad.

  • Omran Terro

    Best tablet in the world…

  • ballbarian

I think it’s acceptable price. waiting z2 tablet to arrive on my country.

  • Andrew White

It might very well be the best tablet i.e. the most powerful, equal best quality build, most versitile, waterproof and the thinnest and lightest.
In Australia though ‘they’ are asking us to pay $100 more even with currency virtually on par with the US dollar.
Sony’s retail outlets are also way more expensive than other sellers…..?

    • Here in Argentina, the 16 GB Xperia Z Tablet costs $6,450 (USD 806). Just imagine how much will cost the Xperia Z2 Tablet when it comes to these lands…
(The basic salary is USD 450.)

The display is breathe stopping awesome despite the resolution. The contrast and colors are way better than ipad air, from what i’ve noted so far. I want it but the price screams stay happy with your nexus 7 :-D

Yet another Ferrari with a lawnmower gas tank. WHY does EVERY SINGLE ANDROID MANUFACTURER even still make 16GB devices?!?!? It’s 2014!!!! After the OS you’ll be lucky to have 9GB free for Apps, which will be devoured if you plan on installing any software to take advantage of the SoC and the titanic pool of ram on this device. In the US, the HTC One (M8) and Galaxy S5 are junk devices just like a Ferrari with a lawnmower gas tank…you run out of fuel(in Android’s case Space) before you start having any fun. On top of that the provided SD-Card slot is useless due to Google limiting it’s ability with every release of android. Last I checked with KitKat on the Google Camera, you can’t even have pictures saved to SD cards anymore…I’m not sure about music, but if even music can’t be played off and SD-Card, having the slot in the HTC One (M8) and Galaxy S5 is an insult to us end users. It doesn’t help that larger capacity versions of these devices are not widely available in the US.

But to HTC’s credit, the M8 is 32GB internal, everywhere I’ve seen.

I’d be down for this in a GPE version, since getting a 10 inch Nexus seems to be a fantasy at this point.

And $499 is perfect. The same price as the iPad Air, but a different and better beast.

  • M3D1T8R

Looks nice (besides the ridiculous 16GB only internal), but the resolution should be higher on a 10″ device these days. I’m eagerly awaiting any more news on the Z2 (phone), hopefully coming to Verizon.

    • AG

Whats ridiculous is that you don’t know that this device takes microSD memory that you can add yourself to boost the available storage. Try doing that on an Ipad Air.

      • M3D1T8R

What’s ridiculous is that you make such assumptions. I know it has SD slot, and that’s great. Still doesn’t change the fact that it should have at least 32 internal, especially now considering the SD limitations of KitKat. And no, I won’t try that on an IPad as I have no interest in Apple’s overpriced products. And Apple’s product shortcomings don’t have much to do with and don’t make okay Sony’s product shortcomings anyway.

        • AG

That’s such a fail! Why pay more for internal memory you can add a 32G microSD card for 15 USD. Your just get even more ridiculous with each statement. Its people like you that complain that there is no expansion slot for storage then complain when they put one in but don’t expand fixed internal storage.
