While those of us with newer Android flagships are impatiently waiting the jump to KitKat, the reality is that many Android devices are lucky even to have Android 4.2 or 4.3. For owners of the Sony Xperia T and Xperia SP, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is as good as it gets so far — at least officially. On the bright side, an official update to Android 4.3 is coming eventually, we just have to be patient.

For those sick of staying patient, we have good news: you can now unofficially download Android 4.3 for the Xperia T and Xperia SP. Thanks to the efforts of DooMLoRD, ROMs originally meant for developer devices have leaked to the net.

While these builds aren’t intended for consumer devices, they will work just fine as long as your device has an unlocked bootloader. Of course it’s important to keep in mind that these ROMs don’t contain the final firmware, meaning they could be missing features that will eventually make their way to the final software.

So should you download and install these leaked ROMs? If you absolutely want Android 4.3 and don’t mind using a build that could potentially have some bugs and other issues, sure. Just be aware that things can and do go wrong when installing non-official firmware releases. For more details on the Xperia SP ROM click here, or head here for the Xperia T.

If you don’t want to risk messing up their devices by installing the leaked firmware, the good news is that the existence of these leaks indicate that official updates for the Xperia SP and Xperia T probably aren’t too terribly far off.
