Sony Mobile has been on a roll lately with its Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade plan. The update has been rolled out to the Xperia Arc S, Xperia Ray, and Xperia Neo V just last month. And except for the Xperia Play, other Xperia devices released in 2011 are expected to receive the latest Android flavor in the coming weeks. As for the company’s Xperia NXT series, which include the Xperia S, Xperia P, and Xperia U – ICS is also coming pretty soon.
Wondering how different the Ice Cream Sandwich experience is going to be when jumping from a Gingerbread-flavored Xperia S? We can help. Seeing — what we assume to be — the official ICS update running on an Xperia S in the wild will hopefully make the one month wait more bearable.[embed width=”600″]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i189IkIvJc0&feature=player_detailpage[/embed]
The video shows that, apart from being able to jump straight to the camera function from the new lockscreen, you can do some other things when the phone is locked, such as interacting with messages and using the music player. The video also showcases the smart dialer function in action, a feature that is missing on some of Sony’s other smartphones. Other things shown off are the phone’s wide range of widgets, the music player, the calendar, and the stacked image gallery.
Sony will roll out the ICS upgrade for Sony Xperia S in late June, while the P and U will get it in the third quarter.
