Following the Xperia S and Xperia U, the Xperia P is the last on Sony’s NXT line of smartphones to be released into the market. Being last on the roster does have its advantage, though. Aside from the phone’s aluminum unibody, which separates the Xperia P from its two siblings, the phone is also getting a specific multimedia dock that doubles as a charging station.
Aptly named Xperia P TV Dock, the main attraction of the docking station is obviously the feature that lets you connect the smartphone to your TV via the HDMI connector on the back of the dock. Once you place the phone in the dock and hook up the cable, you can easily navigate the phone’s content – be it multimedia files, documents, and more – on the big screen, using either the TV remote control or a combo of Bluetooth mouse and keyboard.
And as mentioned, the dock will charge the Xperia P while you’re catching up on the season 2 finale of Game of Thrones. While we’re on the subject of entertainment, you will also get to stream movies from Video Unlimited, thanks to a deal that Sony has secured with Blockbusters.
Although the dock was introduced alongside the Sony Xperia P at MWC, it appears the multimedia hub isn’t ready yet for primetime. Sony said that the TV Dock will only be out in Q3 2012.
Hmm, just in time for that ICS upgrade for the Xperia P then.
