Today at IFA in Germany, Sony unveiled three new phones, the Xperia XZ1, Xperia XZ1 Compact, and the Xperia XA1 Plus. The former two flagship devices will launch with Android 8.0 making them among the first batch of non-Google devices to feature Oreo. That’s great for everyone purchasing one of the new phones, but if you’re a current Sony device owner, you might be wondering if you’re getting Oreo. Well, Sony took its blog to let owners know exactly which devices it plans to upgrade.

The listed devices represent all price points- budget, mid-tier, and flagship, which is an encouraging sign that Sony is committed to updating its phones no matter how much they cost. But a worrying sign is that the oldest phone on the list launched just 14 months ago, the Sony Xperia X. Many customers look for long-term software updates, so this is something that could hurt Sony in the long run.

Android Oreo will bring notification grouping, a new picture-in-picture mode, Notification Dotsthe ability for apps to launch Google Assistant, and much more. While the company has released the names of the devices, no timeline has been given on when they will receive the update. We’ll keep our ear to the ground and bring you updates as they become available.
