Sony seems to be getting more aggressive in the U.S. market. It’s a territory that Sony needs to conquer if it wants to get truly worldwide recognition for its phones. The company is now planning…
If you are looking for a low-cost Android smartphone off-contract with reasonable power under the hood, Sony may have you covered. Earlier today the company announced it is now offering the Sony Xperia Advance in the United States, unlocked for just $250.
What kind of hardware does the Sony Xperia Advance offer? The Advance is powered by a dual-core 1GHz Cortex-A9 processor, a Mail-400 GPU and 512MB of RAM. Other specs include a 5MP camera, 8GB of storage, and a 3.5-inch WVGA display. Unfortunately, you are stuck with Android 2.3, though an update to ICS is eventually supposed to make its way to the device.
The Sony Xperia Advance should play nicely with any GSM carrier, though it should be noted that it will only support 2G speeds on T-Mobile. So should you even consider this phone? Honestly, that will depend on what you are looking for. If your main concern is raw power, the LG Nexus 4 is only $50 more and has considerably better hardware than this Sony handset. On the other hand, the Xperia Advance is known for its dust, water and scratch resistant technologies that result in an extremely durable design.
