Sony QX10 and QX100 owners are about to see a pair of updates that truly bring the Android photo-taking experience to the next level.
First up, Sony has updated its PlayMemories Mobile app to version 4.0. While the biggest change in the app is the introduction of a quick photo browser that makes it easier to review your most recent shots, there’s also likely a few bug fixes and other minor improvements.
Sony also promises a major speed improvement update is coming to Android users in spring of 2014. Specifically, the update is said to allow Sony WiFi-capable cameras to connect to the app up to two-times faster.
Aside from the PlayMemories update, Sony has also announced that its QX10 and QX100 lenses are receiving a big firmware update in January that brings widescreen 1080p video recording, a shutter priority mode, and a even an expanded ISO range of up to 3200 on the QX10 and 12800 on the QX100. This means that the QX lenses should do even better in scenarios where lighting isn’t so great.
Bottom-line, Sony’s commitment to creating excellent Android camera experiences isn’t slowing down anytime soon. While Sony has yet to set a specific date for when the firmware rollout will occur, we’ll be sure to update as soon as we learn more.
