    Sony Odin

Recently there have been quite a few rumors going around about two upcoming 1080p 5-inch handsets, known as the Sony Odin and Sony Yuga. Now it seems that we have a new leak that gives us the overall dimensions for the two Sony smartphones.

The leak comes from the XDA developers forum, and like all leaks of this nature, take this information with a grain of salt.

The Sony Odin is expected to be 131.6 x 69.7 x 9.8mm thick and will weigh only 147 grams. The Sony Yuga, on the other hand, will be 138.6 x 71 x 8.1 mm and will weigh even less at 140 grams. For those keeping score, both of these phones are smaller then the HTC Droid DNA which has dimensions of 141 x 70.5 x 9.73mm.

A 1080p screen in a compact package is great, but what about the power under the hood? The Yuga and Odin are essentially the same smartphone with a few minor tweaks to the design. Both handsets feature a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro 1.5GHz processor, Exmor camera sensors and 2GB of RAM. The Sony Odin is said to have a 2300 mAh battery and the Yuga’s battery is believed to be slightly larger at 2400mAh. It is also worth noting that the Yuga may only be intended for the Japanese market, with the Odin being marketed as a global variant.

What do you think, are you excited about the idea of a Sony 5-inch phablet or not?

I think a 5in is a very good size that is not to massive or too small… That phone actually looks slick

The phone in the picture is just a fan made concept. Here’s a link to actual leaked pics of the phone codename Yuga:

I still don’t get why “normal” phones have to be 5″. I haven’t tried one out IRL yet, but I assume it’s quite a bit bigger than a 4.8-incher. Sure, Note 2 has a 5.5″ screen, but it has a pen with a wacom digitizer and all that good stuff.

Here are the dimensions of the Galaxy S3:

        136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm, 133 grams

That means Odin will be smaller, despite having a larger screen. The weight will also be pretty similar, despite Yuga having a glass rear and both phones apparently having a much larger battery than the S3.

BTW, it should also be noted that there are rumours that Sony has a 6″ phone in the works. If true, and going by what we’re seeing here, the 6″ phone could wind up being a similar size to the Note 2.

        Razr HD – 4.7″ screen. 131.9 x 67.9 x 8.4mm. 146g
        The Odin – 5.0″ screen. 131.6 x 69.7 x 9.8mm. 147g

The Razr HD have a good fit to me. If Odin have almost the same size, I would love to get more screen in (almost) the same size phone…

It would be great if they can hurry up!

Sony is a company with possibly the best products with the highest quality! But their timing is terrible! Meanwhile Samsung serves us products that are over hyped and underperofm in the real world and that’s it. But they release them so quick

The only thing that keeps me from purchasing a phone/tablet from Sony is that their software always sucks… I’ve had experiences with a couple of Sony products (Xperia S & Speria Tablet S) and it’s always the software that’s at fault, for such great hardware it tends to lag a lot or restarts itself all the time…. They should seriously abandon customizing android and just use stock OS, they’ll be more successful that way……
