More images, first video teaser, and possible name of the Sony Honami

by: Ankit BanerjeeAugust 27, 2013

As I’d mentioned in the rumor roundup, with just a few days left to the official launch of the Sony Honami, the leaks are going to be coming in fast. Today, we have some more images of the Sony handset. Another leak suggests that the Honami will in fact be released as the Sony Xperia Z1, and we also have the first video teaser of the smartphone from Sony.

Chinese site Digi-wo has published an image of the Honami along side the Xperia Z and the Xperia Z Ultra for a comparison of the size. As expected, the Honami and the Xperia Z are quite similar, with the Xperia Z Ultra obviously significantly larger than both. What is of interest in the image is the product stickers placed on top, which show that the Honami could possibly be released as the Sony Xperia Z1, as some previous rumors suggested.

Apart from the device comparison above, even more images of the white version of the Sony Honami have appeared on Digi-wo, which give us a good like at the side profile of the device, which does look quite thick, along with a first look at the long speaker at the bottom of the device. We also have a couple of images of the front and back of the smartphone.

Apart from the image leaks, Sony has also kept teasing the device over the last week or so. The company today released a teaser video of the device which gives us a great look at the frame of the smartphone which includes the headphone jack, power button, and a dedicated camera shutter button, as well as the handset being submerged in water. Take a look at the video here –

As the video mentions, it definitely looks like “the best of Sony is about to get even better.”

What do you think of the name Xperia Z1? What are your thoughts on the thickness and bezel of the device, and the first video teaser from Sony? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

will the z1 screen have that feature where you can write on it with a pen?

Why is this important to you? Just curious.

trying to decide between this, lg g2, and note 3. if this has the on screen writing capabilities than it might be my next phone

Only problem i had with the Z was it’s size and now by the looks of it the Z1 is just a bit larger. :/

Z1 looks taller but less wide than the Z to my eyes in the comparison photo provided. Important ergonomics of the phone for me is it fits comfortably in one hand and my thumb can reach from top to bottom of screen. Only real world use will tell me if the Z or Z1 has better dimensions for these criteria.

One thing i respect about SONY, they always low profile about their products, the hashtag #TheBestOfSony instead of #TheNextBigThing or #Blablabla…. LOL

Thick and Big that’s what she said.

  • blowntoaster

why don’t they do a new UI. the current one is a bit dull. hate the greyish theme…

    Too thick for me.

From other pictures this device looked huge but if that is the device side by side with the Xperia Z then might not be as huge as I thought. If it is about the same size as the LG G2 then it might be manageable. I would have preferred a more compact form factor under 135mm tall (max 137mm) but still keeping the 5” Triluminos 1080p HD screen. Sony did an awesome job with the Xperia ZL size wise and still maintained a 5” screen.
