Various reports have previously mentioned what Sony Ericsson has in store for its smartphone products regarding the update to the latest Android version, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. From a rather uncertain stance of making the update “available to consumers in a timely manner,” the company has now confirmed that its 2011 Xperia portfolio will be receiving the upgrade.

The company says it intends to merge its current Xperia experience with the new features in ICS. Through its product blog, Sony Ericsson considers its 2011 Xperia portfolio to consist of the following products:

  • Xperia arc and arc S
  • Xperia Play
  • Xperia neo and neo V
  • Xperia mini and mini pro
  • Xperia pro
  • Xperio active
  • Xperia ray

Besides the Xperia branded phones, the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman music phone will also be receiving the upgrade as well. As with promises made by other phone manufacturers, Sony can make the update possible “as long as they improve the user experience and are viable from a hardware point of view.”

The company is still keeping mum regarding when the affected smartphones will be blessed with the OS update and which parts of the global market are covered. Instead, it will be revealing new information in due time through its blog.

Which of these Xperia handsets do you own or are planning to buy?
