On Friday Dick Komiyama, Sony Ericsson’s CEO, said that the company will require some time before it can get an Android based smartphone out to the market. In an interview with Reuters, Komiyama said:
It does require a lot of evaluation, as well as a lot of testing, a lot of acceptance from a consumer viewpoint, and there is still some time to go
The company seems concerned with differentiating its Android products from those of other companies, since all the devices will be running the same base level software.
On top of that, it is worth noting that Sony Ericsson is going through some tough financial times right now, so it would be no surprise if it were focusing on its bread and butter products instead of pouring money into R&D for a new platform.
