Skydroid—A Launcher Inspired (Not Copied) from Windows 8

Is Android now copying Windows 8?

Well not exactly Android as in Google, but rather an Android developer. Recently, an XDA member under the name of TheRedDrake, created a custom launcher that largely resembled the look of the Windows 8 launcher.

After the public’s well acceptance of his Windows Phone 7 launcher, he moved on to bring Windows 8 to Android. Together with four other members of XDA, they created the launcher that largely resembled Windows 8.

Don’t judge them, however. Instead of copying the UI, the team of developers simply drew inspiration from the Windows 8 Metro. For one thing, they have high hopes for the launcher. By implementing some custom apps to accompany the launcher, they are able to achieve so much. Once they launch, they hope to have twenty custom apps available. So far, they have posted the 18 they are working on—which makes up for the following:

  • Alarm
  • Browser
  • Calculator
  • Calendar
  • Camera
  • Dialer
  • Email
  • File Manager
  • Gallery
  • Launcher
  • Meter
  • News
  • Notes
  • People with IM and Social
  • Player
  • Settings
  • SMS
  • Stock + Currency Converter

The team is expecting a full release around late March or early April. For now, the only teaser they have put up is the one on the photo above. More details soon.
