Yet another alleged image of Shamu, this time shows off ‘about phone’ page

moto-shamu

Yesterday we reported on the first alleged image of Motorola’s “Shamu” phablet, in which the handset was spotted next to the LG G3. Now we have another pic, this time focusing on the front of the phone and giving us a look at the “About Phone” page. While it isn’t too easy to make out the phone in this image, an adjusted version with the levels turned up shows that the device has the same shape as yesterday’s Moto leak and also has the “M” logo on the front.

Turning to the details on the about phone page, Shamu appears to be running an AOSP build of Android L, and it is apparently running a Google-made kernel as well ([email protected]). Since the kernel is directly from Google, this at least indicates that Mountain View may be directly involved with this handset, even if we still can’t say with any certainty whether or not Shamu will be released as a member of the Nexus family

What do you think, like the idea or a 5.9-inch Nexus or not? If Shamu really is a Nexus device, do you think Google will release a smaller version as well, or at least keep the Nexus 5 around to sell alongside this monster?

  • J.

omg please get rid of the branding

    • Ummm

The Motorola logo on the top left is only present on on test units

  • José A. Medina

Well, guess who’s not gonna get the new Nexus just because is ridiculously big.

    • Felipe Augusto Schiquetti

you really think this is a nexus? dont even have a nexus logo on the back… its just a new moto device.

      • José A. Medina

I have my doubts but it seems like it is. I’m hoping it’s a moto device, cuz even if motorola have decent batery life, they suck so hard on the camera…they’re worst than the nexus.

    • Kevin Baca

Well, guess who’s not gonna get the new nexus just because they’re on Verizon… Me lol!

  • Sal

I’m sure reports said it will be 5.2 and not the previous 5.9.
I’ll wait until they say it IS a nexus.

    • Karman Nagra

      Not reports . RUMORS

  • Xavier_NYC

yea those bezels don’t look small at all.. If that’s a 5.9 inch screen that phone is gonna be HUGE

  • pas!

    its not a nexus.

  • Thiago Souza

Unfortunately I won’t get the new Nexus if it’s this big.

  • Charles Frost

5.9″ is humongous for a phone, plus it will cannibalize from the sales of the mini tablets due to its size.

    • rob3211

If this turns out to be a nexus makes sense the HTC tablet is 9inches.

  • Felipe Augusto Schiquetti

can someone make a render with moto E, Moto G, Moto X and this new moto?

  • Tjaldid
    • crutchcorn

Oh my god! Rarely in my life have I ever laughed this hard. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

If enough is good, too much should be just right.

  • I know it’s a longshot, but I’d love this if it had an sd slot.

    • Karman Nagra

Definitely not going to happen if its the new nexus.

      • Luqmaan Mathee

Might happen. Google is giving apps write permissions for the SD card again. So maybe just maybe the next Nexus might come with it.

  • Fiddle Castro

Cannot wait to read the new Nexus v iPhoney 6 reviews soon.

A cultured beast versus a hobbled pansy.

We’ll see exactly how far the iPhoney is lagging behind in EVERY department.

  • Chris

    YES MAKE IT EVEN BIGGERRRRRRRR

    • Jayfeather787

      THAT’S WHAT SHE SAIDDDD.

  • coolguy949

I’ve got the OnePlus One and I actually have gotten used to the size where it feels normal now. When I first got it, I thought it was massive and wasn’t sure I’d keep it. It’s totally fine now. With that said, I still can’t imagine having an even larger phone. If this indeed is the Nexus, Google may have shot themselves in the foot.

    • kirker1870

Google isn’t Samsung or Apple. They don’t have to move phones. They wouldn’t care if the phone flopped. Nexus is about building the next version of the operating system and releasing a low cost hand set for developers.

  • The_Prodigy

The new Nexus reminds me of something. Oh I remember now:

  • Parimal Parth Sarathi

There are chances that this is not a Nexus. A Nexus has to have a Nexus brand logo.

  • Nicholas B Scott

I skipped the G3 to get the Nexus 5 (coming from a G2), only in order to upgrade when the new Nexus came out. Guess I’ll stick with my 5″ screen.

  • ezzkmo

5.9″ might be a tad small. I hope they make a Nexus 6 Plus.

    • Richard Sequeira

      Just don’t wear skinny jeans.

  • Beh Zad

    FAKE!! FAKE!! FAKE!! FAKE!!

    WHY?

Because none of nexus phones have a brand logo on their front side!! even none of the moto X and moto G have a motorola logo on the front side!!! so why should the next nexus have one?!!! FAKE!

    • JayMars84

I believe I saw the same logo on the leaked demo model of the 2nd Gen. Moto X so it’s still possible this is real.

    • Orion

Calm down dude. This is what Motorola do with their prototypes.

  • gabu

There should be two variants of SHAMU one 5.9″ display and another 5.2″ display….there will more demand then as different people prefer different displays …motorola should also take care of the ppi in both types :)

  • DonPorazzo

I’m pretty sure that LG is making another Nexus phone with screen between 5.2 and 5.5.

  • I hope there are 2 Shamus:
    5.9″ -> Moto S
    5.2″ -> Nexus X

    • alain

That is the best answer 5.9 and 5.2 to keep everybody happy ! As for me 5.2 is my size !

  • Murtadha Fateel

My biggest assumptions will be is that this not a nexus device but rather an GPE device by Motorola from their upcoming phablet.

  • MJay

Love the new nexus if it is real. 5’9 works for me. Wish it was 6’0.

  • Lup Alexandru

I wish the next Nexus will be 5.5 inch…

I am happy with shamu ! . I prefer them bigger ! :D more content for multimedia.

  • Kasi Viswanathan

    WHEN THE HOME PAGE ?

  • me me
  • me me
    • José A. Medina

Why someone would want a screen bigger than 5’9 in. Do they have giantnormous gorilla hands?

      • me me

        In greatest reason first order

        – they like the idea of one device which can do everything and so want phone and tablet and kitchen sink combined with IR blaster SD slot fastest CPU really crisp display waterproof etc. They don’t have a life away from the one phone.

        – it is cheaper to have one phone than a phone and tablet.

        – ego. Small penis complex.

        – stupid.

  • me me

From polls and from my experience from trying to get people to want a OnePlusOne, about 90% of the population find any bigger than 5″ too big, amongst geeks it is about 2:1 against bigger than 5″

There is definitely a market for bigger phones but it is a niche. Probably a profitable niche.

  • me me

Secret camera snap from the rehearsal of the launch. Big phone, nah, easy to handle!

You can tell the photo is real.

    • Luqmaan Mathee

      That’s definitely the real deal.

  • TheKid

It’s like we saw the “Loch-ness Monster” with all this hype!

  • etienne.jean.theron

I think this is just another Motorola phone. We all know that Motorola uses a build very near stock Android, and with their logo and not as much as a shred of evidence to suggest a Nexus device I would be very surprised if it is.

  • iTriune

I still don’t think this is the new Nexus phone…..I think it’s Moto’s answer to the Note. Time will tell…….
