Samsung appears to be ready to unveil a new universal audio docking station for their smartphone devices.

Whilst Samsung already has its own range of high end wireless stereo systems, this will be a slightly different take on the formula, aimed at the more general audio consumer. However, Samsung will have to face off against other large manufactures who already have universal Android docking stations in the market; both Philips and Digital Innovations have had similar products out for a while.

According to the specs available, we’re looking at a 2 x 3W stereo device, so nothing which will replace your serious hi-fi, but it should sit quite nicely on your lounge table or kitchen cabinet. Interestingly this is slightly less powerful than their current DA-E570, which sports 2 x 5 Watt speakers. Just like their current line-up of docking speakers, the new system will feature three different inputs methods for ease of use with pretty much any device: a standard 3.5mm stereo jack, a Bluetooth 3.0 receiver for wireless connections, and a micro USB port if you want to sit your phone in the dock. It will also come with the choice of three colors, black, red or silver.

Samsung is expected to unveil its new sound system either at CES in early January, or, failing that, we should see it at MWC in February.  The audio dock will then hopefully be on sale sometime in late Q1 2013.

Would it be too much to ask for a clock? Why is it so difficult to make a GOOD Android alarm clock? I currently use my tablet but a dock with a clock would be much more flexible and permanently display the time.

Google the Philips AS111, a small dock similar to this with a clock display on it. The bigger versions in the Fidelio range for Android all have clocks in them as well.
