Samsung Infuse 4G, Android 2.3.6 Update Available over Kies Mini

Good news for all of you Samsung Infuse 4G owners, it looks like the update to Android 2.3.6 is now available through Kies Mini. The bad news is that it’s available through Kies Mini only. Yeah we all know Kies is the worst part of having a Samsung phone. As you can see above a lot of devices and people are having Kies say that your device is “unregistered device”. That’s just not fun at all.

But at least the update is finally out there, hopefully all the bugs with Kies Mini are worked out soon. It’s a shame that it’s such a mess right now until Samsung gets this all sorted out.

Have you updated your Samsung Infuse 4G yet? Are you experiencing problems? Let us know in the comments.

I was having the “unregistered device” issue. I talked to a Samsung rep and they said that Win7 64 bit isn’t supported, and you have to use a 32 bit OS. A little archaic of them. I haven’t tried that yet. Anyone report success with 32 bit v. 64 bit?

    • Rene

I am getting the unregistered device and also tried it on 32-bit vista and am getting the same issue.

Did text chat with a Samsung rep who stated the issue with Windows 64 bit with the same reccomendation. Ended up calling phone support who felt the rep was as looney as I thought he was. There is an issue with the Kies server that is causing the upgrade to fail with “Unregistered Device” messages. Samsung states they are working to resolve and hope to have it fixed by Monday. They also advise that those who have installed Kies Mini software to uninstall and wait until Monday, call them and verify the issue is resolved, and then install Kies to perform the upgrade. Otherwise they suggest waiting a week or more to try again.

Spoke to a rep at Samsung today about the issue, and it is a fun one. Short version, yep it works, for some. If your phone is factory fresh as it came from the box (use not withstanding) and you haven’t performed any updates, yep, it works great. If you did update your phone, then no, it doesn’t. Someone forgot to code the software to look for more than just the original factory image.

So the software fails to recognize the device. DOH!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, issue is still not resolved as of a little bit ago. The software self updates, same as it did when I downloaded the first time, and still goes from the same initial and after update versions it did before. In good news, previous information from a rep (which I will note in my other comment as well) about bricking the phone is incorrect. Initial reaction to the issue and the possibility of bricking came from not knowing what could possible be causing the problem and fear that this situation could occur. The rep I spoke to said to go ahead and attempt to update to my heart’s content (ok, not in those EXACT words, but you get the drift) as it will not harm the phone.

    • Udtknwme

Forgot to mention, the rep advises that if, for whatever reason, the server drops anything before the issue is resolved the phone may be bricked. So they strongly advise against continued attempts to download the upgrade until they get it fixed, as it may appear to be upgrading while actually trashing your phone.

Its because they released update without acknowledging AT&T. So they pulled it back.

Running 2.3.6on my infuse now so far no issues.did it off my XP machine

Will not brick phone, see comments below. Abstract version: information was incomplete and they had jumped to a conclusion. Bricking will not occur as a result of attempting to update as a result of now understood problem.

I am also attempting to update using 32bit vista. I unrooted and removed the memory card – “unregistered device” message here too

As of 2/4 Noon, it is still not working. Just in case you were wondering.

    • Phrozen

I just tried to start the update on my Infuse 4G and it tells me “Firmware version: Latest Version” and below that it says “Firmware upgrade: 11/10/13″. So is this telling me that I will not be receiving an upgrade until November 10th of 2013? LOL I think this will be the very last Samsung product I buy. If anyone has any better luck please let us know. Thanks.

    • Aaa

      I have exact same issue

Do I have to wait another week or even month?

According to another forum I have been reading, There will be an over the air update with a patch that will allow us to connect to Kies. This will be available by the 8th.

I Updated both my Infuse 4G phones via KIES Mini when it first was available. Both updated with no issues. The GB operating system seems to have no errors or problems since my install so far. GB is without doubt an improvement over Froyo. Would be interesting what issues other were having.

i dont have unregistered device – - kies mini just tells me to upgrade my phone – - how do i do that?

    • Mpers3

My Kies Mini, looks exactly like above, recognizes my phone, tells me to upgrade, but the phone upgrade button is greyed out and I can’t update it.

Just talked to sales person at AT&T about upgrade to new phone. She was pushing the Infuse, and at my pointed questioning, said the update to 2.36 is available OTA. I asked her to verify that, and she checked with supervisor who said, yes, it was OTA. Is she just plain wrong?

    • Mook3266

Well it still is not resolved and very annoying! My phone shows unregistered

      • Garyrgtm

Ditto for me – even after downloading and installing the new (March 23) version of Kies mini

    • Bwb12385

There is a lot of lag after I updated mainly in the gallery it was really smooth but after I updated it its really laggy and choppy that’s the only downside of 2.3.6

    • klig123

My kies found my device…I pressed the upgrade button…it started fine but then it always gives me an error…!

    • Garyrgtm

just happened to check the samsung site today for updates – - and lo and behold, downloaded a new version of kies mini and it recognized my phone and allowed me to upgrade my infuse 4g !!! all seems to be working fine….
