Samsung Hennessy now available in China. The clamshell revolution will not be televised.

If you’ve ever looked down at your phone and thought “man, I really miss clamshell phones”, Samsung has you covered. Not content to have an offering for every screen size imaginable, the company has now created a throwback device with two screens!

There is nothing impressive about the Hennessy, as both 3.27” screens are 320 x 480, hiding a 1.2GHz dual core processor, and 5MP camera. The SCH-W789 is a dual SIM device, and comes in “Luxury Gold”. That’s right — luxury.

It’s live on the Chinese Samsung site, but there is no expectation we’d see it anywhere else. A clamshell phone is a very niche product, and could be part of a broader effort for Samsung in the emerging Chinese market. We have heard about a Samsung clamshell device for South Korea, but we’re not sure if it’s the same as this.

Something about this phone’s design makes me think of The Borg.

  • Eh

Sorry, but this looks silly, the whole appeal of android is the touch screen ability and this just makes it look dumb, but that’s just my opinion.

I like it… and I recommended it to my mom… but it’s selling for a low, low price of 5,000 CNY (that’s more than $800 USD). WTF Samsung.

    • OMGgary

You’re kidding. $800?? Wow, they’ll probably sell about 5 of them at that price. What are they thinking?

      • chanman

I wish I was… but that’s what all the Chinese reports say. Granted, VAT is built into Chinese prices but still…

Samsung is taking innovation to a whole other level! But serioiusly who is going to buy this?

  • Fantastico

    Why Hennessy? After the Cognac?
