Samsung Gear 2 and Gear Fit prices officially confirmed

Samsung Gear 2 aa 6

If you are eager to get your hands on Samsung’s latest set of wearables, the good news is that we now know how much two of these devices will cost.

Speaking in Taiwan on Wednesday, Samsung Electronics announced that its latest Gear 2 smartwatch and Gear Fit fitness tracker will be priced at $295 and $197, respectively. These two prices were later confirmed by Samsung officials in Korea as well. This will disappoint those who were hoping for a more competitive price point from Samsung’s 2nd generation smartwatch. One of the most common complaints levelled at the original Gear was its expensive $299 launch price tag.

The price for Samsung’s more budget oriented smartwatch, the Gear Neo, has not yet been announced, but it’s not unreasonable to assume that the product will be priced between the Gear 2 and the Fit. Somewhere around $250 is probably a reasonable expectation.

Samsung has also confirmed that the Gear 2 and Gear Fit are both scheduled for an April 11th worldwide release, which is the same day that the company’s new flagship Galaxy S5 goes on sales in 130 countries around the world.

As Samsung is maintaining a premium price point for its Gear 2 smartwatch and Gear Fit, and considering how cheap its competitor’s devices are, there’s a real risk that Samsung’s wearables are simply too expensive to appeal to a wide range of consumers. With the unveiling of the new Moto 360 to consider as well, has Samsung done enough to tempt you with its new line-up of wearables?

well, these are suggested retail prices. at least in europe actual sale prices are lower than that from the start of sales for samsung products…

  • Chris

This is intriguing but for 200 the fit is too much. At $150 I would have heavily considered it, at $100 I would preorder.

  • Mihnea

Who cares? Moto 360 is awesome!

    • K

There are reports that it will end up costing close to the same.

  • arturv

too expensive, my sweet spot would be $150 or $200 for something really revolutionary…

  • Dimitar Gospodinov

I guess they priced them before the Android Wear and Moto360 announcements LOL

    • Bobby Phoenix

Exactly. What was the Moto price? I think I saw $400. I’d consider a smart watch at around $100.

      • nytimes

I expected Gear Fit to cost something like $100 and next version with GPS for $130 or so..

      • Nathan Powell

They haven’t released pricing yet, I’m guessing 200. can’t get a good regular watch for under 100

      • adamhs

$100 will buy you a smartwatch made out of cardboard and glue. Good luck with that.

  • Luka Mlinar

This thing costs more than the Moto G O.o
    Is this a joke?

  • carlosfrancoz

After seeing the new Moto360 smartwatch, this is like an ugly and bulky old casio watch! LOL

  • Nathan Powell

300 for a Tizen powered piece of crap that only works with like 3 of their phones? How bout no. This is the last straw for me on Samsung, good bye and I know LG will enjoy your spot as top company now

  • adamhs

The Gear Fit looks like the more promising device but with that price tag and the restriction to Samsung devices… Wait until someone hacks it like the first Gear I guess. The Moto 360 looks incredible but it doesn’t look like something I’d wear jogging, biking, or to the gym. Can’t risk scratching its shininess. In an ideal world I’d get both.

  • JT

im sure the deals will start rolling out

  • ThatDudeKee

Att&T has released their price for the Gear 2 neo and it retails at $199 like the Gear fit.

  • RichardHClaybrooks

Good. But needs improvement. 10 games into a topic and you’ve pretty much mastered it. The question pool needs to be expanded. But very addictive for sure.

  • xhozt

    Ill keep my pebble .

  • Ian Huntly

Way too expensive for a limited function device
