If you are up for some Android hacking right now, try to check out this guy from XDA Developers who overclocked his Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Wi-Fi to a blazing-fast 1.4 GHz.
Forum member _motley, the user who developed the hack, was able to bump the speed of the Galaxy Tab 8.9 to 1.4 GHz and is even working on something that can bring the clock speed up to 1.5 GHz.
The mod is on its first release and this alpha version is not yet perfect. The maker listed some issues that can be encountered when this is installed on the device.
One of the issues, for instance, is the lag in the lock screen. The SetCPU options have some issues, as well, as the program won’t always set the processor speed as configured. The developer also mentioned that setting the CPU speed to 1.5 GHz will make the device unstable.
The developer also noted that this hack will not be compatible with the 3G version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9.
Basing on the details of the hack, these modifications can only be done if you have an in-depth know how of Android. This mod requires you to root your device. It also needs CWM (ClockWorkMod) installed, an advanced data recovery tool.
There have been several good reviews and comments about _motley’s hack. A number of members in the XDA Developers forum have already tried it on their devices and reported that it works great.
Extra processing power is a good thing to have. If you are eyeing to try this out on your own Galaxy Tab 8.9, do read the forums carefully and install it at your own risk.
