Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Coming to Rogers This Month

August 5, 2011

While the Wi-Fi-only version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is already available for preorders in Canada (through Best Buy and Future Shop), a lot of Canadians are wishing for the 3G or 4G version. That Canadian wish may come true this month, according to a photo of an internal document leaked to MobileSyrup.com this week.

The document allegedly is a product brochure of devices available on Rogers. According to MobileSyrup.com, the photo’s source said that the tablet will be carrying Android 3.1 Honeycomb, contrary to what the brochure is saying. The tablet will also be the “4G” version.

Just like the U.S. version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, the one heading for Rogers will also have a 10.1-inch multitouch display with 1280×800 resolution, dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor (1.0 GHz), 1 GB of RAM, a primary and a secondary camera, 16 GB of internal memory, and an updated version of Samsung’s TouchWiz UI.

The tipster couldn’t provide information on the price or release date, but we figure that the upcoming tablet will definitely cost more (probably around C$600) than the Wi-Fi-only version (C$500).

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 3G/4G version will be Rogers’ latest addition to its Android tablets portfolio, which currently consists of the original Samsung Galaxy Tab (7-inch) and the LG Optimus Pad.

    Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

You state that the WiFi version is already available in Canada. Please note that it is not available in Canada. The initial release date had been July 22nd, that was moved to August 19th and now has been moved to August 26th.

While the end user cannot get an answer from Samsung as to the reasons for the delay and if the August 26th date is now firm, it would be a good customer service gesture on Smasung’s part to provide some answers. While the device appears to be excellent and has good reviews, do we keep waiting or just go out and purchase and IPad2?

If Samsung wants to compete with Apple, they cannot do it without product. Just wonder how many potential customers have been lost due to the numerous release delays…?

Who in their right mind is gonna buy a WiFi only device these days? If 3G or 4G isnt part of the deal I suspect many will sit on shelves collecting dust. Id like to purchase one of these tablets, but without 3G .. forget it.

Actually, I did with my Playbook. And guess what, I dont have to pay for another data plan as I can tether the device to my Blackberry Phone and use the data that I am already paying for for my phone. Ergot, a wifi only device saves me money: Wifi at home, wifi at work, and when not there, tethered to my phone without paying for another data plan. So yes, wifi only devices are quite good – provided that they can tether to a phone. The real question regarding the new Samsung Galaxy tab is whether or not IT can tether to a blackberry phone – if so, I’ll get it. If not, there is no way that I will ever pay for another data plan again.
