Following the extravagant launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4 in New York, being flown into Romania on a helicopter, and a grand event at the Sydney Opera House, Samsung brought the Samsung Galaxy S4 road-show to India today, a few days before the rumored May 1 launch. And the launch event at the Kingdom of Dreams, Gurgaon, wasn’t a low-key affair by any stretch of the imagination! But, more importantly, we now have all the availability, pricing, and other information about the Samsung Galaxy S4 in India.
First up, to answer the question that I’m sure is on everyone’s mind, the Indian version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be powered by the 1.6 Ghz octa-core Exynos 5 processor, making India one of the few markets to get this variant. Other specifications of the device remain the same, and include -
The 16GB version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 is priced at Rs 41,500 (~$783), which is a good price point to take on the HTC One priced at Rs 42,900 (~$809), even though that is the 32GB version. Considering the high cost of the device, 3, 6, and 12-month EMI offers will be available with select credit cards.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 will go on sale from tomorrow, April 27. It will first be available only from the Samsung eStore and Samsung premium brand stores in Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Bangalore from 12 noon to 4PM. Anyone picking up the device during this time period will also receive “surprise gifts” from the company. After 4PM, the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be available from major retail stores around the country.
Samsung announced a partnership with Vodafone to provide data and voice offers available to anyone buying the Galaxy S4. Both prepaid and postpaid customers will be able to avail a special “all-in-one” tariff plan that with “unlimited” data (with FUP), up to 3000 local and STD voice minutes, and up to 750 local and national SMS. The exact “full-speed” data availability is unknown.
Similar to what was available with the Galaxy Grand, Samsung Galaxy S4 owners will have free access to Rs 12,000 worth of content through the My Services apps, which includes over 2,000 movies, trailers, and previews, 3,00,000 hindi and english songs, 10,000 educational videos and 1,200 text books for grades 1 to 12, 100 live TV channels, live-streaming of concerts and events, and digital versions of newspapers, magazines, and over 30,000 e-books.
