Leaving aside all the Galaxy S3 madness for a while, let’s see what the Canadian owners of Samsung’s ex-flagship, the Galaxy S2, can look forward to these days. Canadian users have been waiting for quite…
For those who have successfully resisted the temptation to bring the leaked Android 4.1 Jelly Bean firmware over to their Samsung Galaxy S3, a software update apparently is heading your direction. It's not of the jelly variety, but rather the final Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Galaxy S3, so says GSMHelpdesk.nl.
The OTA update, which is being rolled out today, is nothing to get overly excited about. It is meant only to fix some “stability problems” as well as some bugs fixes. The 27.4MB file will contain no new features and you won’t see the OS version move up a number. So your phone will still run version 4.0.4 of Android once it is installed.
The source doesn’t mention about the build version of the new firmware, and so far we haven’t seen many users receiving the OTA update. Now we don’t blame you if you’re not really that enthusiastic about the news, but you may want to check on your phone to see if there’s any minor update waiting there.
As for the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, August 29 is the date you should be marking down on the calendar — at least for the international variant of Galaxy S3.
