Samsung Galaxy Pop official – it’s like a quad-core Galaxy Premier… or a downsized GS3

There are countless of reasons why we love Samsung. Sammy’s officials have taken a huge gamble with the Galaxy Note and Note 2, they’ve done a stupendous job with the GS3, they’re slowly, but steadily moving up the tablet ranks and they have plenty of smartphone choices to fit every need and budget.

In short, everything looks peachy for Sammy, right? Wrong, we’re sorry, but we have to be straight with you. There’s something that just doesn’t seem to work lately with the company’s mid-range smartphone offerings.

We aren’t going to witness Samsung’s brand dilution without saying something, so here it goes. What’s up with all these slightly downgraded Galaxy S3 and Note 2 lookalikes that pop up out of nowhere only to confuse everybody?

There’s the S3 Mini, the Galaxy Grand, the Galaxy Premier, the Galaxy Express and now the Galaxy Pop. Are you frigging kidding us, Sammy? We probably wouldn’t have had a (big) problem with just one toned down GS3 and a second-class Note 2, but surely things are getting out of hand.

Granted, we knew about the Pop already, but we simply didn’t want to believe the phone existed. And not only it exists and is official, but is by far the most puzzling Samsung device ever. It looks just like the Galaxy Premier, only it comes with a 1.4 GHz quad-core CPU. Besides that, everything is the same, including the 4.65-inch Super AMOLED panel, 1 GB of RAM, Android 4.1, 8 MP rear-facing snapper, 2 MP front-facing cam, and 8 or 16 GB of on-board storage.

Ridiculous, especially when you think that the Galaxy S3 itself is not very different, only sporting an ever so slightly bigger 4.8-inch screen. And don’t even get us started on the Pop name. By the way, Sammy, did you really forget you used that before? Thank God this Galaxy Pop is probably going to never leave Korea.

It seems to me that they are experimenting to find the best selling design. The Galaxy s3 might be a great seller in the US but different designs might be more popular in other parts of the world.
