AT&T has announced that the Samsung Galaxy Appeal will be available under its Go Phone deals starting June 5. The phone happens to be the first slider Android smartphone that AT&T sells with the GoPhone data plans. The handset will first come to Walmart for $149.99, followed by other AT&T GoPhone distribution channels, beginning July 15.
For those of you who are not aware of Ma Bell’s offer, the GoPhone pay-as-you-go plans provide affordable data options, available in 1GB for $25 a month, 200MB for $15 a month, or 50MB for $5 a month. Along with the data packages you will have to choose from either the $50 Unlimited Talk & Text nationwide plan or the $25 Unlimited Text with 250 minutes natiowide coverage. Unlimited Wi-Fi usage comes free, so you won’t have to worry about losing connection when you’re on the move. Of course, that still depends on the proximity of an AT&T Wi-Fi hotspot, of which the carrier claims to have more than a thousand across the U.S.
By releasing the Samsung Galaxy Appeal under the GoPhone plans, AT&T is providing customers on tight budgets with the chance to taste the Android experience. The Samsung Galaxy Appeal certainly fits the GoPhone plans, as the entry-level phone comes with a slider QWERTY keyboard, perfect for texting and emailing.
The Samsung Galaxy Appeal also boasts a 3MP rear-facing camera with 3X zoom, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 3.2-inch touch screen display, 512MB of RAM and 1.8GB of ROM, expandable microSD card, and a 1300 mAh battery offering 7 hours talk time and 300 hours of standby time. Full specs in the press release below.
In the processor department, the device is packed with a decent 800 MHz ARM Cortex A5, the Qualcomm MSM7225A. The chip should be enough to provide a decent experience across the entire functionality of the device.
As for the environment-conscious, you’ll be glad to know that Sammy claims that the Appeal is made of 80% recycled materials. Also, the packaging materials used lesser paper than the packaging of other Samsung phones. So, budget-friendly and nature-friendly!
