As flagship smartphones like the LG G3 prepare to cross into QHD territory, the tablet space could soon be making a leap forward of its own: over to 4K.
a Qualcomm an Orange demo (corrected due to error) at the French Open, a 12-inch Samsung tablet was used to broadcast live television over LTE. According to TechRadar, the prototype device might have been broadcasting video of only 720p quality, but when additional windows were opened on top of the video stream it became clear the display packed an immense resolution of 4096×2160. In addition to a 12-inch 4K display, the prototype tablet reportedly packed a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 CPU as well.
With Samsung’s Galaxy Premier 2014 taking place on June 12th, you might be wondering if the 4K behemoth will make yet another appearance, this time getting an official announcement. Honestly, we wouldn’t count on it.
Although both Qualcomm and Samsung has previously suggested 4K equipped tablets will surface by the year’s end, we imagine they’ll wait until a CPU arrives that can better handle the strain of a 4K display — such as the Snapdragon 805. It’s also important to note that we can’t confirm that the 12-inch Samsung tablet shown off at the French Open really contained a 4K display, so we’d take the entire report with a grain of salt for now.
