Rumor: HTC One 2 (M8) “preliminary” specs and features include Snapdragon 800 CPU, KitKat with Sense 6.0 on top

The purported specs and features of the HTC M8, which will reportedly be called the HTC One 2, have been detailed again in a short tweet from a well-known leaker.

Interestingly, @evleaks, who has been accurate with his previous mobile-related leaks, labels the HTC M8’s specs as “preliminary,” suggesting that things aren’t set in stone.

According to him, the phone will pack a 5-inch Full HD 1080p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor (MSM874,) 2GB of RAM, UltraPixel rear camera, 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera, 802.11 a/b/g/b/ac Wi-Fi and run KitKat under the hood with Sense 6.0 on top.

We’ll note that the M8 doesn’t appear to have the latest flagship Qualcomm processor (the Snapdragon 805) on board, according to this leak, something a previous rumor also suggested. It’s also not clear what kind of rear camera the phone will have – or better said, how many UltraPixels it will have, compared to its predecessor. the same previous rumor indicated that the HTC M8 will pack a 4 UltraPixel camera like the original HTC One.

@evleaks did not post an image of the handset – here’s a concept video for the handset and here’s a rumored 3D model showing the device – nor did he mention an actual launch date for the device. A judge in a Nokia vs HTC case in the UK has revealed that the M8 may be released as soon as this February.

That said, this is still just a rumor, so treat it appropriately.

wow this is a major let down… why not use the latest chitset?? no SD805?

      • wat

Yeah they’ll get a few sales by being out first but the difference over one is tiny

      • Ruz

yes HTC is very lazy to get latest on their handsets coz they dont get better deals for the latest gadgets.. Buy it or leave it..

        • jbrandonf

What are you even talking about?

      • Adam Koueider

Snapdragon 805 won’t ship until second half of the year

        • Colby Leong

I thought Beats separated themselves from HTC. Don’t get me wrong they made a good phone, just didn’t do well enough where it counts, sales. So could Beats separating from HTC hurt them in there next flagship?

          • Adam Koueider

Beats did buy back HTCs share in the company, however, they did claim that their relationship would continue so the Beats branding could remain. As far as the actual usefulness of Beats Audio…it isn’t when talking about audio quality, but it does prove a little bit useful in marketing.

            • Opinion

if i’m not mistaken, the beats branding does not appear on one max, after htc buy it share, maybe htc need to pay some price to make it present in htc next flagship

            • Adam Koueider

Yup you’re right, I wouldn’t be too concerned about the lack of Beats Audio, it’s just an equalizer after all.

    • Zacisblack

I don’t think Snapdragon 805 is ready for full production. I think it’s going to be a few more months. Either way, manufacturers should wait because the S800 is basically last years chip and for some reason took forever to find its way into phones in 2013. Looks like most of the high-specced phones are coming out late this year.

      • jbrandonf

Umm…No. We’re hitting the point of diminishing returns in a lot of areas.. screen resolution, processor speed, etc..it’s good enough, HTC should be focusing on delivering stellar battery life in addition to their signature designs.

    • namepicker

You know, HTC one two sounds… ummm… stupid?

      • AndroidBoss

Hopefully its just called “HTC Two.”

        • MasterMuffin

Hurry and contact them! They seriously need a better marketing/branding team

          • AndroidBoss

Btw just got my Nexus 5. However I got the older version- the one with smaller speakers; but idc it’s really awesome! What about yours?

            • MadCowOnAStick

i don’t get these people about the speakers, they’re fine :P

            • AndroidBoss

Yeah I’ve tested the speakers…They are perfectly fine and the battery life is good. Perfect for me. It’s awesome.

            • MasterMuffin

It IS really awesome indeed :) I got the older version too, but I don’t care

            • AndroidBoss

Yeah same. In my opinion maybe smaller speakers look nice but ohh well lol. Did you get the official bumper case? It looks so nice with the black one. However, it can easily scratch and collect finger prints. Still very nice.

            • MasterMuffin

I don’t want a case, too beautiful device for that!

            • AndroidBoss

Lol alright. But honestly it will easily get scratch. And the camera as well.

            • MasterMuffin

I know, but I’ll treat it like my own baby :)

            • MadCowOnAStick

i’ve already dropped it two times :P once face down on the screen, but the ground was flat and i had a case so it was fine :D

            • MasterMuffin

Well cows don’t have fingers xP
But seriously, Nexus 5 is much easier to hold than the slippery S3 that I had before and I rarely dropped that, so I can (hopefully) manage. You definitely need a case though :D

            • MadCowOnAStick

yup, and looking at AA’s drop test… dropping it on its face doesn’t look too happy

            • MasterMuffin

Any phone dropped on its face doesn’t look too happy :)

            • Aravind J Nampoothiry

              Except Nokia 3310 :)

          • AndroidBoss

Btw just got my Nexus 5. However I got the older version- the one with smaller speakers; but idc it’s really awesome! What about yours?

        • Me

The whole point of having the One series was to unify their range into ‘one’ line of smartphones. HTC Two does sound nicer than one-two, but it also ignores the origin of the naming system.

          • jbrandonf

            Good point.

          • AndroidBoss

Yeah One Two 3 will sound very nice huh? :P

      • phalanx

Not really, one-two pass is quite popular on soccer…

    • Jayfeather787

      Battery size?

    • Steven Rodriguez

I hope to God that they give it a larger notification LED. The one in the top speaker grill is essentially useless.

      • jbrandonf

Why do you say that? Maybe because I have a newer generation from a warranty swap, mine is bright and clear.

        • Steven Rodriguez

Because its too small and thus near impossible to notice if you don’t have the phone directly in front of you. Try seeing it on an angle, not happening.

    • mustbepbs

Sense 6. I wonder what they’re going to do with it since it’s a major revision number.

    • brendan soliwoda

This is just basically this year’s model except with a 5″ screen and snapdragon 800. I might as well just buy the HTC one as it is now.

      • wat

5 inch is too small too. Other 2014 flagships: S5 5.25, LG G3 5.5 inch, Vivo Xplay 5.5 inch, etc etc

        • Guru Tim

Aaaaand you’re getting these screen sizes from where exactly haha..? To my knowledge none of the phones you listed have even been announced, so you’re just using rumours? Please.

          • Dimitar Gospodinov

I think the Vivo is real and it is “2K” but the M8 screen is fictional too so…

          • wat

            Oppo Find 7 5.5 inch

    • Segroukin

I hope it gets a bigger battery and better camera.

    • Luka Mlinar

Oh god not the same camera again? O.o

      • Dimitar Gospodinov

If they use the 4MP camera they will bankrupt for sure!

        • Luka Mlinar

That ultrapixel thing didn’t really work. Compered to 13MP shooters on other flagship phones it was shit.

          • Dimitar Gospodinov

Yeah no doubt…it might work but it should be AT LEAST 8 ultraMP…it was a great idea but 4MP is just rediculous.

    • TjaldidTjaldid

Only 2 GB of Ram and an S800… well… If the Z1 gets cheaper by the time this launches then I won’t see a reason to purchase it

      • jbrandonf

This phone isn’t for you if you have a One/S4..your upgrade wouldn’t be up yet. This phone would be for this who bought a One X/S3.

      • jbrandonf

By the way, tell me what you do on your phone that requires more than two gigs of ram and more than the snapdragon 800?

        • TjaldidTjaldid

Well the Custom Android skin for one ;)

          • jbrandonf

Like Nova, or for root? Because those are often lighter ‘weight’ than the stock skin by OEMS.

    • Danny Samuel

Bettery battery will be nice to see…

    • droidmonster
