Rumor: Blue Motorola Droid Razr to hit Verizon on May 18
Verizon’s Motorola Droid Razr wasn’t exactly a poor smartphone when it first saw the light of day, back in October 2011, but it quickly became uncool. The Droid Razr Maxx’s release in January probably hurt the original Razr the most, but the fact that the phone was never updated to Ice Cream Sandwich (and probably never will be) didn’t help it one bit.
However, Verizon and Motorola seem to still have faith in the Razr and are preparing to offer the device in a new color variation starting in just a couple of weeks. The source of the rumor is a leaked “inventory screens” which shows the Razr wearing in a snazzy cyan outfit.
The documents show that the spanking new blue version of the Droid Razr is set for a May 18 release. The phone is currently offered in white, black, and purple, so for the life of me, I can’t see why Verizon feels the need to offer a blue variant as well. Sure, the phone looks nice and everything in the leaked pic, but will it make that much of a difference?
Aside from the fresh coat of “paint” on the exterior, this new Droid Razr will most likely come with the same old specs of the original phone. That means you will get a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with 540 x 960 pixels resolution, a dual-core 1.2 GHz TI OMAP 4430 processor, 1 GB of RAM, an 8 MP rear-facing camera, 16 GB of on-board memory and a 1,780 mAh battery. On the software front, the blue Razr will most likely come packing Android 2.3 Gingerbread, so my honest advice would be to look at something else. However, if the “new” device will be released for free on contract (hard to believe, but still possible), that could make for a pretty good deal.
Also, keep in mind that neither the existence of a blue Droid Razr, nor the May 18 release date are official or in any way confirmed by Motorola or Verizon. All in all, this could just be a practical joke or a scheme to make us forget about the Droid Razr HD, which we actually await with excitement.
By the way, does anyone know anything about that Razr HD (or Droid Fighter) we were talking about a few weeks ago? Hello, Moto, are you going to step up your game anytime soon with something the least bit original?
