Rovio to launch the Bad Piggies game, an alternative to Angry Birds, on September 27th
After Angry Birds Classic, Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Rio, and Angry Birds Space, which have all focused on destroying those mean pigs with the angry birds, Rovio is finally going to make the alternative game, the pig’s point of view, with a totally unique gameplay, called “Bad Piggies”.
“There’s a lot of empathy towards the lovable enemies from the Angry Birds games, and we’ve been constantly asked: what about the pigs’ side of the story?” said Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio. “Bad Piggies gives you the chance to play as the second-most-loved characters in the Angry Birds universe, and explore this rich world through their green eyes.”
Angry Birds has made Rovio what it is today, a hugely successful game development company. But Rovio may not be able to keep on releasing variants of the Angry Birds game for too long. People will get bored with the idea eventually, and many are already bored with it. This is why Rovio needs to keep trying new game ideas like Amazing Alex, while also trying to capitalize on the success of Angry Birds with new angles, like the Bad Piggies game.
The new game is going to be released on September 27 on Android, iOS and Mac, while Windows and Windows Phone versions will come at a later date. This is quite a chance in the development environment from a few years ago when developers were developing first for Windows, and then maybe for Mac, while now they develop first for iOS and Android, and treat Windows as a second-rate platform.
What the game looks like and how it plays, we don’t know yet, but I’m sure Rovio will be posting more trailers soon to give us a taste of what’s going on in its new Bad Piggies game.
