First official Jelly Bean-based AOKP build released

by: J. Angelo RacomaAugust 20, 2012
While nightly builds of AOKP already implement a custom 4.1 Jelly Bean release, official releases of the custom ROM are still based on 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. AOKP developers, however, are nearly ready with a formal release: AOKP build 1 r28 is already available for download. Device support is still limited, and the developers are not accepting bug reports yet.

ICS update for Galaxy R accidentally leaked by Samsung

by: Bams SadewoAugust 17, 2012
When it comes to subject of Android 4.0 ICS upgrade, the lesser known (compared to the flagship S) Samsung Galaxy R has not been forgotten by Samsung. Released last year as the more affordable alternative to the Galaxy S2, the Galaxy R is scheduled to receive the new firmware in August, though no specific date was given. By a stroke of luck, a Galaxy R owner has received Ice Cream Sandwich on his phone ahead of everyone else, thanks to the company’s mishap.

by: AdrianAugust 17, 2012
The Galaxy Note 10,1 wasn’t even officially out when an independent dev compiled a very helpful tutorial on how to root the device. And now that the 10-incher has finally made it onto the market, it should not come as a surprise that a ClockworkMod Recovery tool has been released, making everything ready for the upcoming custom ROM “avalanche”.

Thanks to XDA member QD2DC and his team, a fully working Ice Cream Sandwich ROM for the HTC Desire HD is now ready to be served. Even more amazingly, there’s currently no known glitch when running the unofficial ROM on the Desire HD, so everything should work perfectly.

Yes, you read the title correctly. Thanks to elite, recognized XDA developer Adam Outler, the Verizon variant of the Samsung Galaxy S3 can now join the ranks of other SGS3's with a fully unlocked bootloader. This is an amazing achievement for the entire community, allowing Verizon users to root their device, flash the unsecured bootloader, and opening the device for complete customization.

HP TouchPad gets Android Jelly Bean via CM10 Preview Release

by: Derek RossAugust 13, 2012
If you were lucky enough to get an HP TouchPad this time last year during their "fire sale" for $99 (16GB) or the $149 (32GB) your Android luck hasn't run out yet. Remember, Android first came to the HP TouchPad via CM7, Gingerbread. A few months later, Android 4.0 came to the HP TouchPad, bringing a true tablet UI to the 10" popular slate. The CyanogenMod development community continues to grace the HP TouchPad, this time with Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean showing up via an unofficial CM10 preview release.

CyanogenMod 9 stable release is out for the Galaxy Nexus

by: LucianAugust 9, 2012

The CyanogenMod team released the RC1 version of CM9 just before Google I/O started. A couple of weeks later, RC2 was launched, and now it seems that CyanogenMod 9 stable is trickling out for some devices. Well, truth be told, they’ve only released it for the Galaxy Nexus so far, which may be why the team hasn’t made an official post about it yet. I’m sure that once at least a couple dozen phones will support it, they will announce it.

Reaching the stable version of CM9 is a very big deal for the developers that have been working on it for so long, because it has been a huge project. When they started porting ICS over, they’ve had to basically [...]

HTC G1 gets unofficial Jelly Bean port

by: AdrianAugust 9, 2012

Worried that your one-year-old dual-core smartphone might not get an official Jelly Bean upgrade, due to the software not “being supported” by the “outdated” hardware? Well, that’s bull and you know it! And if you doubted that, we now have the most conclusive piece of evidence possible to prove otherwise.

The HTC Dream (aka T-Mobile G1) is the device that started it all, being the first ever Android running phone in history. Back in September 2008 (man, we’re old!), the Dream was introduced powered by Android 1.0, which quickly turned into 1.1 and then into 1.5 Cupcake.

The last official software update [...]
