(Update: Additional render) Samsung Galaxy Note 7 press renders leak

The Galaxy Note 7 has leaked in all its glory, thanks to new renders from Evan Blass, which show off the Black Onyx, Blue Coral and Silver Titanium colours!

Update (July 2nd): A number of hours after the original story went live, a new render surfaced via an online accessory store. The picture corresponds with a curved glass screen protector made by Olixar and showcases the curved display, the USB Type-C port, and of course, the three-sensor arrangement used for iris scanning, which is curiously missing from the image @evleaks published earlier:

It should also be pointed out that the retailer has leather cases for the product and carbon fiber ones listed as well.

Galaxy Note 7 press renders

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has managed to generate an inordinate amount of attention so far, perhaps more than any Note preceding it. Indeed there are as many reasons why: (1) It is said to be launching August 2nd – the earliest ever, (2) Samsung is said to be skipping the number 6 to synchronize with the mainstream Galaxy S7 numbering, (3) it is becoming increasingly likely there will only be an Edge variant produced, (4) it is all but officially confirmed that an iris scanner will be present, (5) there is apparently going to be a blue color variant, finally (6) it may be Samsung’s first phone with USB Type-C  and (7) 6GB of RAM.

Today, Evan Blass (@evleaks) has leaked a picture that is arguably the culmination of much of what is listed above, and yet, infinitely more:

Now it should be pointed out, obviously, that as Samsung itself has not published these renders, they should not be considered official as of just yet. There is, for example, an inconsistency at hand:

 The Iris Scanner

One particular point of note in these renders is the seeming lack of a three lens array above the display, which puts it in contrast to the leaked photo of the front plate we exclusively revealed earlier this week:

The above showcases the trio of cameras that Samsung is expected to be using in the new Note 7 for purposes of eye scanning. It follows a patent that was discovered earlier that showcases a need for such. Today’s leak clearly does not have a tri-sensor arrangement, and thus raises question as to its accuracy. Given that Evan Blass himself “confirmed” an iris scanner, it only lends to the argument of its inclusion.

Extra bits

There are a few other details one can make out from the pictures:

  1. The S-Pen can be seen faintly, which looks exactly like the push-to-eject variant present on last year’s model. It remains to be seen as to if Samsung will have devised a way to prevent users from inverted insertion.
  2. While the front faces look to be of a totally pure nature, the rear plates have a faintly visible lined design going on.
  3. The rear also looks to be curved slightly, as was the Galaxy Note 5 and this year’s Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.
  4. The rear camera module’s protrusion looks to be slimmed down as with the S7 and S7 Edge.

Wrap Up

Those looking for a quick supposed spec summary can assumed that the Galaxy Note 7 will have either a 5.7 or 5.8-inch QHD Super AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 821 or Exynos 8893 SoC, 6 GB of RAM, 64/128/256 GB of internal storage, microSD expansion, a 12-megapixel rear camera with dual-pixel PDAF, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, 3,600 mAh battery, iris scanner and the new Grace UX running on top of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
