Red Nexus 5 arrives to the Google Play store, same $350 starting price

by: Andrew GrushFebruary 4, 2014

Late last month we learned of a leaked Sprint memo that suggested the red Nexus 5 would reportedly end up launching to Google Play on February 4th, a little over a week ahead of Valentine’s Day. It turns out that the launch date was spot on, the Red Nexus 5 has arrived, priced at the same $350 for 16GB or $400 for 32GB.

Other than the color change, this is the same Nexus 5 we already know and love. As a refresher, that means a 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU, 2GB RAM and 16 or 32GB of storage. Other specs include an 8MP rear cam with OIS, a 1.3MP front cam, LTE support, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0LE, Android 4.4 KitKat and a 2300 mAh battery.

For those that are considering picking up the handset now that it has arrived in red, be sure to check out our full review.

To snag up the red Nexus 5, head on over to the Play Store. What do you think, anyone planning on picking this one up?

This should have already been there for Christmas market in my opinion

SO ANNOYED. I would have even payed like $20 extra for this color! Why is Google so cruel, releasing cool colors MONTHS after the phone is out

either to make you buy a new one or to motivate those who have been wanting one

If I may hint, the next color to be launched should be the “Bright Yellow”, so the phones match the bumper cases..not sure I like these colorful options though…maybe they should’ve launched a special edition in red, for christmas or whatever, it would’ve been way more interessant (and the appeal of a special/limited edition would sell a lot more)..

what if the bright red is for Valentine and the Bright Yellow is for summer? (Though I think summer is too late for a new Nexus 5)

      • Rustinson

You’ve got a solid point there…summer would be too late to launch a new color (or maybe not…who knows what google is planning)…I’m really curious to see what comes next from the nexus line, specially after those news that google is going to kill nexus in 2015…

    “. As a refresher, that means a 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU, 2GB RAM and 32 or 64GB of storage”

    storage is incorrect there

    • Andrew Grush

Yah.. not exactly for sure how I ended up putting that down… especially as an owner of the Nexus 5.. lol. Thanks, fixed. :)

I don’t like the fact that the sides are also red, it looks like someone just put an ultra slim case on it…
