RC33 firmware trickling out to T-Mobile G1 owners

rc33-originalIt appears that firmware revision RC33 (firmware rev 1.1)  has started making its way out to a few select T-Mobile G1 users.  The T-Mobile Forums’ admin, Will, posted the following yesterday evening:

Good evening!

As some have posted, we have indeed begun issuing an update to G1 users. The update, Firmware version 1.1 / RC33, was released to a small number of users today, but will be sent to all G1 users over the next two weeks. The update includes several bug fixes and feature enhancements, but is not ‘Cupcake’.

You need not take any action as the update is issued at random and will reach everyone in due time.

For those interested in exactly what is included in the update, I will follow up tomorrow and post any information I am able to track down.

Thanks for your patience!

So that’s all we know for now – it’s not Cupcake.  We’ll post more information as it becomes available.

If you cant wait for the update download anycut from the market. Open the app and hit new shortcut. Then hit activity and then device info. This will create a short cut on what you could say “the desktop” Click on it scroll down to bottom and hit check for upgrade. Once I did this it started the RC33 download.

I recieved RC33 yesterday, voice search was awsome, latitude is cool, but if you leave it running in the background it will RIP thru your battery, I had to charge 3X yesterday, disabled lat. today we’ll see what happens, sux no on screen keyboard :(

@Charley – I guess the updates are running a bit too frequently and causing a bit too much data to be transmitted. Let us know how it works out with latitude turned off.

I turned off latitude and I’m back to normal on battery life….maybe they need to tweak the settings so it’s not sending your location so often?

Yeah, sounds like it’s just a bit too aggressive on updating.
