RC30 firmware update to fix G1 “jailbreak” back door

RC30 firmware update to fix G1 “jailbreak” back door

Enjoying your new found root access to your T-Mobile G1, are you?  That’s great.  Soak it all in.  We’ll wait.

Ah, you’re back.  Well, thanks to the G1′s over the air (OTA) update model, that root access is going the way of the dinosaurs.  For now, at least.  RC30 is being developed and will be sent out as an OTA update soon, and it will fix the telnet based back door in the RC29 and older firmware revisions.

From Google:

We’ve been notified of this issue (Jailbreaking of Android) and have developed a fix. We’re currently working with our partners to push the fix out and updating the open source code base to reflect these changes.

Ah, the eternal game of cat and mouse. Anyone want to do a sweepstake on how many days after the OTA update is released before its reversed?

    I love this game.

Well, as far as I can see google have taken a moddable, customisable os and taken away the freedom to modify it, the majoraty of users were jailbreaking it to move the webcache off the low internal memory onto the sd, skin the phone and change notification tones, all apps are free so it wasn’t for that….. why do this? Its like making a car the you can’t pop the hood on.

I bought my G1 with stock RC30 and I’d really like to use bash and a proper terminal emulator as root :(
