Motorola’s Android devices have always been known to be a little tough to root, but thanks to XDA Developers member FrAsErTaG, we now have a quick and easy method to root the Motorola RAZR XT910.

This rooting method gives us several benefits, such as the ability to restore backups from previous devices, the ability to run ad-free host files, the ability to run rooted applications and the ability to remove /system applications. You’ll now have more control of this awesome phone, and it will only take a few minutes to gain root access.

If the Motorola RAZR XT910 is your first-ever Android phone, and you’re not familiar with how to go about the rooting process, have no fear. As long as you follow our instructions, you’ll have a rooted phone in no time.

The best part is that FrAsErTaG doesn’t just give us the rooting process for one Android version.  The developer gives us two. Now you can root your Motorola RAZR XT910 whether you’re running Gingerbread or Ice Cream Sandwich. The rooting method for Ice Cream Sandwich also installs Superuser and Bootstrap Recovery.

Unfortunately, this method is only available to Windows users. For those of you running other operating systems, you’ll just need to wait until the developers release a version for you.

Warning

  • Use this guide at your own risk.  We shall not be responsible for whatever damage you or your phone will incur because of your use of this guide.
  • The rooting procedure in this guide is intended only for the Motorola RAZR XT910.  Do not try using the instructions for another device or variant.

Requirements

Take note of the following requirements for rooting the Motorola RAZR XT910:

  • A Windows PC
  • Make sure to enable USB Debugging. You can do this through Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging. Tick USB Debugging. This is extremely important.
  • Enable installation from unknown sources.  You can do this through Settings > Applications.
  • Make sure that your Motorola RAZR XT910 has a fully charged battery. This prevents the device from shutting off in the middle of the rooting process.
  • Make sure to install the Motorola USB Drivers.
  • Download one of the following:

Instructions

Once you have everything, you may now root your Motorola RAZR XT910. Please use the rooting method for your Android version.

Rooting on Gingerbread

  1. Download Zergrush V2 by DoomLord (see link in Requirements).  Save the file to your computer.
  2. Extract the contents of package using 7-Zip, WinRAR, or any other archive extraction program.
  3. Connect your USB cable to your computer.
  4. Connect your Motorola RAZR XT910 to the other end of the USB cable.
  5. If your phone prompts you for PC Companion, simply dismiss or skip it.
  6. Go to where you extracted the contents of DoomLord’s Zergrush package and double-click on the runme.bat file to run it.
  7. Sit back and wait for the procedure to complete.

Rooting on Ice Cream Sandwich

  1. Download the Root ICS+ package to your computer. (See link in Requirements).
  2. Extract the contents of Root ICS+ package using 7-Zip, WinRAR or any other archive extraction program.
  3. Connect your Motorola RAZR XT910 to your computer.
  4. Go to where you extracted the contents of Root ICS+ package and double-click on the run-windows.bat file to run it.
  5. Sit back and wait for the procedure to complete.

Did you sweat? Your Motorola RAZR XT910 is now rooted.  Congratulations!
