With XBMC finally arriving on Android, I was thinking it may be just a matter of time before the app is ported to the Android-based OUYA console. Now the XBMC team is announcing that they…
If you missed out on the chance to grab the Android based OUYA gaming console during the Kickstarter campaign, and have been wondering how you'll be able to get your hands on one, then I have some news for you.
OUYA will be hitting retail stores in June this year, but if you don't want to run this risk of stocks running dry you can also pre-order today. Large chains Target, Best Buy, and Gamestop will all sell the console in their stores for around $100, and additional controllers at $50 each. Online retailer Amazon will also be stocking OUYA, so hopefully availability shouldn't be a problem.
The Kickstarter project already received 68,000 backers, each of which will be receiving a console for their support. But on top of that, OUYA claims that it has been selling more and more pre-orders each month. Although OUYA aren't being specific about the figures, a spokesperson has stated that there are already more additional pre-orders than initial backers. So we know that, at the very least, there are over 136,000 eager customers waiting for the their console to ship out.
Taking a Kickstarter project to retail stores is clearly a must if OUYA wants its console to become a household name. There's only so far an internet buzz can take you, mass success will depend on consumers being able to get their hands on the product in stores. So this is definitely a sensible move on the developer's part.
If you want to get your pre-order in before June, then you should head on over to the official website.
