It is rare that we see an interesting carrier-branded smartphone released to the consumer market. That’s why when Orange UK’s own-brand Android smartphone, codenamed Santa Clara, was announced in February and then shown to the public at the MWC in Barcelona, our curiosities were piqued, especially since the device will be powered by the new Intel Medfield processor.

Since then, we’ve seen some benchmarks that showed that Medfield is surprisingly capable and a registration page put up by Orange. Now, more pieces are falling into place for the Santa Clara, as it seems that its UK launch is about to happen soon. Orange is hosting a special event on May 31, 2012 to officially launch the smartphone. The carrier is also featuring the device on its UK website but did not indicate the exact date when it will available.

As you can see in the above image, the specs of the Orange Santa Clara are nothing to write home about. One of its better sides is the 8MP camera, which has become a standard for smartphones released these days. The shooter is said to be capable of taking up to 10 pictures per second. It can also capture detailed HD video and play it back just as smoothly.Other key features include the 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2460 single-core processor, a 4.03-inch WVGA screen display, 16GB of onboard memory, HSPA+ connectivity, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. No word yet on whether it will be upgraded to ICS later on. Price or availability are not known yet, but you can sign-up with your email to be the first to learn these all important details.
