While the biggest news to come from China today has been clearly Oppo’s final setting of a launch date for the uber-hyped Find 5, the Asian manufacturer has another surprising ace up its sleeve.

The Ulike 2 might not have the mind-blowing specs of its “cousin”, but could definitely draw up a crowd, as it’s targeted towards a very specific niche. This one goes out for all you ladies (and overly vain gentlemen), rocking a very stylish exterior and featuring a whopping 5 MP front-facing camera.

That’s right, while many OEMs have been busy upping the ante in the display, hardware or battery departments, Oppo has made the bold decision to considerably upgrade a spec that’s been mediocre at best ever since the beginning of times.

Self-portraits have never looked great on mobile devices, but that’s all in the past. With the Ulike 2, you’re going to stop depending on others or on luck to capture your best duck smiling faces. Not only is the front-facing cam equipped with a higher than before sensor, but it also comes with “beautification features” like face slimming, skin whitening and skin smoothing.

But you’re not going to be the only sexy thing in this equation, because Oppo’s new phone is very elegant. Though this is clearly a device targeted at women, we very much appreciate the fact that it doesn’t come in pink, but in a white silky color scheme that shows off Ulike 2’s curves and “gapless” display.

As for other specs besides that cam, this is not a record-breaking handheld by any means, but it’s not a pushover either, with a 4.5-inch 960 x 540 pix res LCD display, an 8 MP rear-facing shooter, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of on-board storage, Android 4.0 ICS, a 2,020 mAh battery, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.

Details about the processor are still mysterious, as is pricing, but we’ll know more on December 19, when the Oppo Ulike 2 is scheduled to start selling in China. Who wants one?

I can’t understand why even camera phones don’t have good front cameras! I hope that others will follow Oppo’s lead!
