Leaked images show off OnePlus One, StyleSwap covers too

The other day we reported on sketches and OnePlus One marketing/packaging materials that hinted at what the front and back of the upcoming handset might look like. If you weren’t sure what to think based on those pictures, the good news is we now have a more detailed look at press renders of the device, alongside what appears to be the StyleSwap covers that will allow you to change up the look of the device.

As you can see, the overall shape and look of the OnePlus One in these photos falls in line with the design language shown off in the packaging/retail materials that leaked the other day. The OnePlus One appears to employ a minimalistic design approach that is very Oppo-like in nature, with the handset borrowing heavily from the design of the Oppo Find 5 in particular. Of course, considering the founding members of OnePlus came from Oppo, this makes sense.

Whether the OnePlus One’s design is something you’d consider the phone to be “more attractive than just about any [device] on the market, with the exception of maybe the iPhone” is probably a matter of taste. That said, we have to admit those stylish swap covers certainly have us more than a little excited. Before we get too ahead of ourselves, however, it’s important to note that we can’t say with any certainty that these images are legit. While they certainly fit with what we’d expect from the handset, it’s possible these could be merely fan renders, so we’d take all of this with a grain of salt for now.

Curious to learn more about the OnePlus One? Click here for our previous coverage, or here to get a closer look at the device’s specs. If this is a legit look at the OnePlus One, what do you think of the design — impressed or not?

Thanks to Luka, over at the Android Authority forums for tipping us about the images seen above!

Man the mobile site went to shit. Takes me a few flicks just to get to the article, it’s ridiculous.

    • supremekizzle

Yup. I actually think we should comment this on every article and hopefully, it’ll be the top voted comment on every one.

    • We made some design changes this week and it is likely you are pulling the old stylesheet. Please do a hard refresh and this should clear the issue. Sorry for any trouble this has caused.

      • supremekizzle

Totally worked. Thank you! Everyone: Go into settings—>apps—>downloaded—>chrome—>clear cache. Gets rid of all the crap.

      • Tony T.

Thanks for keeping the site updated. So many of us follow on mobile, obviously. A well optimized mobile site is much appreciated :)

    • RussCruz

Ikr I actually thought that there was no article at all so I scrolled down to see the comments then I saw the article

    • Ruben

Totally agree with you. This is shit…

  • RaiDei

I dig it, I dig it alot. Simple, clean, and looks suitably high-end up close. I assume the default back-plate is metal, but I could be wrong…

Is that a lightning connector, though? What’s up with that?

    • Noel

Looks like a lightning connector adaptor at the end but u can also see the micro USB inserted in the lightning connector. Still not sure what to make of the dimensions..seems like a Phablet not as compact as i would’ve liked to see. Well just a couple more days to really see if the final product matches our expectations or the hype machine.

  • Aravind J Nampoothiry

    Looks great!

  • Corey Watford

Hope those buttons on the last photo are software like, cause I dont need a menu button, but I defiantly need a recent app button.

  • VersedNJ

Repost this when they have am item for sale or a web page which shows their product. And not some odd webpage offering invites and no product.

  • aaa

stupid 5.5 inch phones are wayyy too wide. ~70mm width should be the max

    • Fred Chiang

you mean you think 5.5 inch phones are way too wide… OBVIOUSLY there is a huge market for them because samsung is still in business with its note series and whatnot

    • RusticKey

If you think it’s too big then buy a smaller phone, it’s that simple.

    • Guest123

I have a LG OGP 5.5″ and it’s great. . . would go for the LG g pro 2 at 5.9″ if/when the price is right — that’s the perfect size, can’t go back to anything near 5″ or less, and that is exactly what she said as well :)

Lucky for you, there are lots of tiny phones available.

      • aaa

How is 5 inches tiny. Unless you’re a girl and get to hide it in a handbag, the note series is seriously unmanagable, pocketing it is uncomfortable. Flagships should be 5.2 inches max. 70-72mm. Note 3 is close to 80mm. Try that with a case.

    • Noel

Yup agree…Sharp managed to put a 5.2″ screen on the Aquos Xx 302Sh which is 132mm tall and 70mm wide. If they can do it, i expect the other major OEMs to do the same.
It looks like LG might achieve something close to that with the G3 cuz the 5.5″ screen isai FL from which the G3 might be derived has a high screen to bezel ratio.

  • PL

    Ugly camera ruined back.

    • RusticKey

Really? It looks rather nice for me.

  • supremekizzle

I see capacitive buttons in the last photo. Hopefully it’s not so…

    • silver_arrow

They have said you are given the choice between capacitive and onscreen buttons

    • Tjaldid

I’m more concerned about the UI it should have 5 icons instead of 4 in a row on such a big display plus the Icons look to average for me

  • dandroid13

Does anybody still care about this? It’s only hype, hype and hype…

    • Luka Mlinar

It’s high end and cheap, cheap, cheap.

      • dandroid13

It’s cheap but, like the Nexus, the OS lacks.

        • Luka Mlinar

What are you talking about? Nexus has vanilla and this has Cyanogenmod. Can’t get any better than that.

          • dandroid13

Can’t get any worse than that. :P
Any OEM “skin” does a better job than Stock/AOSP, just an example here, until 4.4, you couldn’t manage your SIM contacts with stock Android, that’s really a “smart” phone feature.

          • Luka Mlinar

That all you got? Have fund with your bloated touchwiz. I’m sure you’ll need 8 cores with that fat azz.

          • dandroid13

            Great, another hater… lol

          • Airyl

CM is better than everything. Sort of. Kind of. Maybe. Depends on who you’re asking.

        • marhensa

i prefer Nexus-like OS such as CyanogenMod. than Sense, TouchWiz, etc..
clean, fast, and get the latest update.

          • dandroid13

            Ok. :P

    • Guest123

It does have great potential, however that’s the problem. Right now it is only potential and we haven’t really seen anything substantial.

Will the bezels really be small? The dimensions say otherwise. Will the design really be that good? Thus far we aren’t seeing anything spectacular. Will CM really be great on this device? CM is generally buggy and has poor battery life. . . etc.

If they can make a decent device at a great price with unlocked boot loader, and CM actually works well on it. . . they could give the Nexus line a run for its money. BUT. . . I’m not sure they are going to pull all that off.

  • droidtomtom

Man! If those are legit, then I am very curious. Because at this point it would suggest a removable back cover and battery. And why not a micro-SD slot if it is true. The design looks very slim but it is hard to tell since this will be a 5.5″ device.

  • s2weden2000

pic 1 is totally different …pic 7 has a power button ….pic 8 does not

  • Not Impressed

Absolutely agree that the mobile site has gone to shit. Nearly left after the last popup and no scroll fiasco. Couple of days to see if they fix this mess. If not I’ll get my Android fix elsewhere.

    • Please refresh the page or clear your cache, we made some design modifications this week. If you are having any other issues after this please let me know.

      • Brandon Miranda

You guys have way to much stuff crowding the full website as well. I have to use adblock to clean up your website to make it more user friendly for me.

        • Guest123

Adblock — the ONLY way to surf the web!

          • Brandon Miranda

  • Be5

The dimensions of the leaked pictures don’t match the dimensions of the Xperia Z1 which what the CEO said it will be.

    • sau

It’s 2 mm wider (74 vs 75.9). I think 1mm on each side is hardly noticeable, especially considering the huge screen.

  • Brandon Miranda

Uh lawsuit. Those icons bear a striking resemblance to iOS icons. Uh oh.

  • BronzeLincolns

    we’re being trolled..

  • Michael Muyunda

The One x, M7 and the M8 look better. It just looks like re-branded Oppo phone. It’s not bad at all but It’s not as good as they claimed it would be.

  • thadjudda1

they have gotta do something with these damn names! :-/

  • Vincent Gaylie

It’s funny that the company using Google’s +1 as a logo is just about the only android company not using Google’s version of android

  • abused customer :p

This looks REALLY GOOD!! I think I’ll buy one right at launch… A wait up… I don’t have an invitation >:(

  • John Williams

That is truly lovely, if correct. If I sell my Nexus 5 and Nexus 7, I could buy this. My heart says do that, but it’s purely based on the look of this phone, never mind the great specs and features. Hmmn. Tough one.

  • MasterMuffin

Why does one of the pictures show MIUI? It’s a CM phone

    • Luka Mlinar

The working theory is that there will be two OS versions. Chinese one and one for the rest of the world. It’s because Chinese people love the MIUI UI. Personally i don’t think they will release with two UI’s. The 5.5″ format was already for the benefit of the Chinese costumers.

      • MasterMuffin

I think they would have said something if they were putting MIUI in it

        • Luka Mlinar

It’s not MIUI. It’s just the same design philosophy.

          • MasterMuffin

The Chinese are now copying each other? :D

      • [S]unjay Burn[s] Red

        Like the Oppo Find 7

    • Tiah Oon Tjoe

it actually looks more similar to Lenovo’s Vibe z UI

    • Ben

It’s to big. How can it hide behind a z1??? Were they telling crap? With that size it’s not an option.

  • Luka Mlinar

You’re welcome guys. I’ve been looking forward to this phone for some time. Only real problem they made is that that this phone is for the Chinese market. I always got the sense people here never wanted a phablet. Why make a 5.5″ small bezel phone when you can make a 5.2″ or 5.0″ small bezel phone. Not only is it 5.5″ but doesn’t have on screen buttons. What evleaks posted that they will have a choice of on screen and capacitive buttons. I don’t think he was talking about two different models. Just an option in CM to turn off the capacitive and add on screen. On the OnePlus forum everyone is convinced that this will not be the international version of CM but in fact the Chinese since they love this kind of look. It’s hard enough to get a company to make you a brand new OS for a non existent company, can you imagine telling them to make two totally different looking ones.

    • krazyking

They have said it will be a 5.5″ screen that fits in a 5″ body. So this is a positive thing. Having a larger screen without compromising on the size of the phone is a plus. Relax.

      • Luka Mlinar

I rather have a 5 inch phone in a 4.7″ body. Also the body in question was the Z1. The largest bezel phone in it’s range. It’s more a question of how you spin it than how good it is.

        • krazyking

All I can tell you is if it’s too big for you get a smaller phone. The majority of people would rather a larger screen.

          • Luka Mlinar

No option for me out there. Only the moto X ATM.

    • Noel

If this phone doesn’t have onscreen keys..it will be out of consideration and it will be a turnoff if capacitive buttons were added as an option, cuz it just adds extra bezel.

  • Adon

So far I like what i see plus the spec and price, even better. Its got that LG G2,Oppo Find look,NICE AND SIMPLE. So far so good.

  • Michael

The photo that suggests a width of 75.9mm is Fake. The official tweet by oneplus showed us a xperia z1 on top of the supposed new smartphone. Xperia z1 has a width of 73.9 which is narrower.

    • Fynn Klöpper

Remember that one end of the Xperia Z was not shown? It probably really is longer

  • [S]unjay Burn[s] Red

It looks like a great design, the skin sucks though.

  • paxmos

This unnecessary hype has turned me off. Just bought an unlocked S5

  • Mf Lye

it seems like on one of the pictures the front is not totally flat.
the bezel around the screen is sloped inwards.

  • eliHd

If this phone have removable battery & micro sd card slot I will defo buy this phone. If not I will look at other phones and take it from there.

    • Anonymous

Well then do you have an invite??

      • eliHd

I will gatecrash the party no need invitation ;-)

  • alila2

i was really excited for this phone and thought of replacing my nexus 5 , until i saw the bottom bezel and overall dimensions which is no different from the oppo 7 , what happened to its going to be smaller than the Z1 ??? i guess i have to wait and see might be fake or just wait for the G3 .

    • Noel

Any device that can deliver on the most minimal bezel with a 5.0″> to <5.5" screen and a monster battery 3000+mAh, a decent camera will likely get my cash. This decision will be made from the following four devices..GS5, One M8, LG G3 and the OnePlus One. I hope the one doesn't disappoint.

  • Na7noo7

    Design is good.

  • Dave Weinstein

I just looked at the dimensions. Have you heard the saying, “it looks like a duck, it quacks like a duck, it’s a duck!”, well this thing IS a Find 7a. It’s got nearly the exact same specs (plus a processor bump to the 801) and its got some fancier back covers.

Early on they stated that it would have 9 bands of LTE, but I’m doubting that now. I think they might have added up the different bands from different regional versions of the device.

The only real differentiator is the CM11s OS.

  • Johnny

that’s a huge bottom bezel it has there..kinda reminds me of the oppo find 7

  • JKS

Has anyone noticed that it just looks like the Oppo FInd 7???

  • aaa

70mm width should be the max srsly. Anything more will be annoying with a case. Unless you’re stupid and don’t even use a case, don’t mention being super careful and shit. Your phone will drop eventually, some day. The Galaxy S4, with 5 inch screen at 70mm should be the best size. 72mm should be ok. But not this 76mm bulllshit that will be fat as hell with a case. Have fun pocketing the brick, will be uncomfortable. I hate that all the new flagships are coming out at 5.5 inches. Give me a refreshed Oppo Find 5, at 5-5.2 inches. I’ll buy it in a heartbeat.

    • Peter

You said far too many stupid, purely emotional things for me to debate, let alone the clear indication that you’re young … so your opinion is moot to me. Yes, I said moot. Look it up.

      • aaa

Oh, the fact that I was born later than you matters? Well, if you want a childish response. I don’t give a damn to what you think. Flagships coming out at 5.5 inches (note series) is seriously cumbersome. Almost all the people who don’t use cases are begging to have them fall and crack. There is only a tiny majority of users that are mighty careful. I consider myself really careful and yet I’ve dropped it before, not on the road of course. And with a case on, not a scratch.

    Why menu button? :/
