The HTC One S has a dual-core processor but it’s such a pity to think that they haven’t really been optimized. The folks at XDA Developers, however, have found a way to squeeze the most out of the two processors.

Recognized developer -viperboy- has made the HTC One S perform even more powerfully by developing Dual Core Mods designed to optimize the phone’s processing performance. There are three mod versions, each designed for unique purposes. The mod versions are:

  • Dual Core Mod – designed for CPU1 (or core 2) to work all the time.
  • Dual Core Mod Plus – CPU1 works only when the screen is On to preserve battery life.
  • Dual Core Mod Ultimate – Works the same as the Plus version but the governor is tweaked to improve performance

If you are wondering which Mod is the best, most users have chosen to install the Plus version, but as far as better performance is concerned all the three can deliver. Just flash it on your device and your phone will surely get a boost.

If you want to install this mod, see the requirements and instructions below.

Instructions

  1. Copy the Dual Core Mod ZIP file of your choice to your HTC One S.  You can copy it to /internal_sdcard or /sdcard.  Make sure you remember where you copied the file to.
  2. On your phone, turn off “Fast boot” from Settings > Power.  Make sure that option doesn’t have a check mark.
  3. Turn off your phone.
  4. Boot your phone to Bootloader Mode by holding down the Volume Down button then pressing the Power button.
  5. From the bootloader screen, highlight “RECOVERY” and press the Power button to select it.  If or when you see a red warning triangle, press both the Volume Up and Power buttons to enter Recovery Mode.
  6. From the recovery menu, select Install ZIP from SD Card > Choose ZIP from SD Card. Select the Dual Core ZIP file.
  7. Confirm the installation and wait until the flashing is done.
  8. Once done, reboot your phone by selecting Go Back and Reboot System Now.

Reverting to Stock CPU Settings

If, for whatever reason, you want to revert to stock CPU settings or undo the changes that the Dual Core Mod has made to your phone, just follow the same steps as above, but use the Dual Core Mod Back to Stock package (Dual_Core_Mod_Back_to_Stock_v2.1.zip, MD5sum: ae3bc3cf68fe0b87eb6218b72c6a7bd4)

Congratulations! Through these mods, your HTC One S processor will surely work faster than ever.

Serious! Us T-Mobile users have waited patiently .. but now even cheap mnvo users are getting the update before us!? That is ridiculous! Never buying another T-Mobile phone…what a joke. I went in and asked them about the update and they told me I could update by getting a new phone! great customer service. no thank you. I’m switching the day my contract is up!

It might be worth mentioning that the Telus HTC One S still hasn’t received an update… I believe the target was end of January…

Actually it was promised by the end of Dec 2012, and even then we were waiting too long. Jellybean was released in July 2012 I believe for Christs sake or was it June. Either way this is pretty pathetic having to deal with the carries before releasing it to them, before they release it to us. Just send out the damn thing already, nobody wants htc sense anyways with all of it’s bloat apps that we can’t delete. By the time it gets to telus, Google will have finished android 4.3

Update: I just got updated to Android 4.1, Sense 4+

In general, I’m okay with HTC Sense. I feel that there is a bit of lag when compared to stock Android, but I really like the HTC Sense camera and photo editing apps, and that makes it a reasonable compromise for me. I also happened to root my phone when I first got it, so I was able to get rid of the bloatware that Telus puts on the phone – I deliberately left the HTC stuff intact.

Lesson for the future: Buy an unlocked Nexus device for prompt updates.

And AT&T is yet to release the 4.1 update for HTC One X.

  • tired of waiting

This is weak, I’m done waiting for that update I got a Samsung Note 2!

  • yay

Jelly Bean 4.1 landed on my Bell Mobility HTC ONE S last night! (when i performed a manual ‘check for updates’)

  • Parsifal1492

According to an HTC Call Centre the Jellybean Update will not be available for Telus Branded HTC One S just yet. No reason given…. Kind of upsetting that people on WIND Mobile got the update already and they have not had the phone in their stores as long as Telus has.
