Good things come to those who wait. And for those who weren’t even expecting the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update to come so soon, it makes it just that much sweeter. After the OTA update to Android’s latest and greatest OS was sent out to “soak testers” two days ago, the software update is now heading to all owners of the WiFi Motorola Xoom.

Understandably, you may not see the Android 4.1.1 update notification right away on your Motorola Xoom, as this thing tends to go in stages. If you’re getting impatient, you can use the same trick that was used by some folks to speed up getting the Jelly Bean update message. But a word of caution, please do it at your own risk.

Here’s what you have to do:

  • Go to Setting  > Apps > All > Google Services Framework
  • Then hit the Clear data button
  • Optional restart
  • Check manually for update

The method may require several tries before you hit the jackpot, but some are reporting good results and see the Android 4.1.1 update notification afterwards. If you don’t want to risk it, then it’s always better to wait it out. As for those who have received their update, welcome to Jelly Bean.

  • Yippee

Worked first time for me here in Canada with a rooted US ICS

My WiFi Xoom has a problem after updating to Android 4.1.1. It restarts by pressing the Lock key in the back of the tablet.

I got JB update last night by automatic notification. Xoom is soooo fast, I can’t believe it’s a year old system. Works flawlessly.

  • bknight

I used the directions from above to push the JB upgrade and it installed and upgraded my Zoom with no problems.

  • Many thanks…I have JB first try! What fun…

Updated to Jelly Bean officially on my stock wifi Xoom, and it has lost my SD card. The SD card shows up as mounted in my settings, but none of my apps can find it (media players, etc) and two file managers (Astro and ES File Manager) can’t see it either. I’ve checked the card, both in my computer and in the Xoom via my USB cable, unmounted and remounted, rebooted, all the usual stuff and nothing gets the SD card visible to any of my apps.

Look under /storage. You should see sdcard0 and sdcard1.

    • John

Mine did the exact same thing. Worked fine last night and now after the update it can not find the card.

    • Mine as well.

  • Patrick Capello

Is this supposed to work if rooted?

    • Someone

I would also Like to know as I have yet to get the update to work when it comes through. All my android devices are rooted the first day I get them & that will never change. Cause if I can’t root it I might as well be a apple fan.

  • Installed perfectly. Seems to be running smoother overall. Some games that were only ported and not optimized for droid seem to run faster on Jelly Bean. Netflix app stopped scrolling like it was stuck in molasses and works as it show now.

    WORKED the FIRST time ….LIKE A CHARM >…Thanks a lot !!

just got my update and my Xoom crawls at a snail’s pace. Please give me back my ICS.

4.1.1 update locks my Xoom frequently for short periods of time and then unlocks on its own
