Taking care of yourself can be a dicey proposition. Accidents can happen and sometimes they can happen when you’re all alone. This is why Nuvel’s vSOS, a digital Life Alert service, is a great way to ensure your continued safety and the safety of those who you consider close to you. Originally only available on the iPhone, Nuvel has branched out and has released an Android version of the app – which can alert emergency response teams wherever you are in the US, and even in some other parts of the world.

The app works on two levels. First, owners can add their own personal medical information to the app – disabilities and allergies are some examples, and this info will help emergency personnel treat you once they arrive. Also, emergency contact information can be included so first-responders can immediately contact your family or your doctor in case something bad happens to you.

The second purpose of the app is 24/7 access to emergency services. For a subscription fee of $12.99 per month, vSOS users will be able to immediately notify local authorities if there’s an emergency. All you have to do is press the home screen icon for more than 3 seconds, and a distress signal is sent to GEOS, a professional services company, which will then contact local emergency services if they can’t contact the user.

That’s not all – GEOS has its own Search and Rescue services. If its available in the area, expect them to be on their way as soon as you notify them. The app even sends your GPS location so as to assist their EMS teams in finding you.

Right now, the vSOS system works in North America, South America and Europe.  So if you have plans to travel anywhere in those areas, it would be a good idea to get this app.
