For those that signed up, Notion Ink’s Adam will become available for pre-order at 00:00 AM tomorrow Indian Standard Time (IST), which is 1.30pm EST today (9th December) in the States. For the rest of us, we can get involved 6 hours later. As Notion Ink point out, their launch has made them the number 2 blog on WordPress after Oprah Winfrey. But enough of that, let’s remind ourselves of what the Adam has going for it.
First of all, it runs their own build of Android called Eden, which is based on Android 2.3 but brings many of the features Honeycomb is alleged to offer. It also has a NVidia Dual Core Tegra 250 Processor. This is one of the main talking points for this device. It also offers a choice of displays, including a back-lit LCD or a transflective Pixel Qi display. The latter is more suited to reading in bright sun-light and works more like an eReader display. The Adam also offers a rather cool 185 degree swivel camera for taking pictures of yourself, or what is around you. Furthermore, it provides a full 1080p HD Video output through HDMI along with a host of connectivity options including GPRS, 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Pricing starts at $375.33 for the entry level while adding 3G makes it cost $425.33 while the transflective Pixel Qi model will cost $499.95 (Wi-Fi version) $549.99 (3G versions).
