TL;DR
  • The Nintendo Switch Pro could launch ahead of E3 2021.
  • It might only go on sale in September or October.
  • The console could cost more than $299.

The highly anticipated OLED Nintendo Switch Pro could finally hit store shelves in September or October, sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg.

Nintendo could announce the console ahead of the upcoming E3 gaming conference that kicks off on June 12. Folks over at Eurogamer also confirmed the development. This would allow publishers to showcase their range of new Switch games ahead of the official release of the machine.

Bloomberg also reports that the upgraded Switch Pro could be priced above $299. The original Switch launched in 2017 at $299, so naturally, the updated model is expected to be costlier.

The Switch Pro will apparently sell alongside the $199 Nintendo Switch Lite. Meanwhile, the company might phase out the standard Switch over time.

Assemblers of the Switch Pro are expected to start shipping out the console as early as July so that Nintendo has enough units stocked up around the time of its release. However, production is only expected to go into high gear in the October – December quarter, possibly to meet peak demand during the holiday season.

Nintendo Switch Pro specs

The new console is tipped to pack a 7-inch 720p OLED display. It’s also expected to bump up gaming resolution from 1080p to 4K when docked and connected to a TV.

Moreover, rumors have also suggested that the new system might use an NVIDIA chipset to help scale 1080p games to a higher resolution.
