Everyone who is gearing up to make their big Nexus One purchase next week can look forward to having root access to their handset right out of the gate. Thanks to some hard work by Paul over a MoDaCo’s Android forums, the not-yet-released Nexus One can be rooted in a simple three step process using superboot – a flashable boot.img that will root your device the first time you boot. If you like to root, then you probably enjoy benchmarking and will appreciate a newly leaked video which shows Neocore, a 3D graphics benchmarking tool, running on the Nexus One. Don’t be discouraged by the somewhat low 26.7fps score. Remember the Nexus One has Android 2.1 and is rumored to have OpenGL ES 2.0 support, while Neocore was designed for Android 1.6 and OpenGL ES 1.1. The tester is running older software on the newest hardware and there is bound to be some incompatibilities which can skew the score results. To get a better idea of how the Nexus One would perform, one should take a look at the Acer Liquid A1 which scores a much higher 34fps. If the Liquid A1 can score that high with its older Android 1.6 OS, Open GL ES 1.x support, and an underclocked 768MHz Snapdragon processor, imagine what the beefed-up Nexus One could do.
