Nexus One desktop dock passes through the FCC

An eagle eyed member of Android forums scanned the FCC and scooped the Nexus One desktop dock which received FCC approval last week. The outline drawing of the desktop dock is not revealing but the test report reveals a bit of an oddity – the desktop dock includes integrated Bluetooh 2.1+EDR, seemingly duplicating the Bluetooth functionality of the phone. Any guesses as to what extra functionality would be provided by the secondary Bluetooth in the desktop dock? Unless someone with inside information comes forward, this is one mystery that may have to wait for the official announcement before it is solved.

    My guess would be that it can double as a A2DP audio device. Have it plugged into external speakers and stream music from your phone while you’re in the room. Only thing I can think of, but then I’m not that imaginative this soon after I wake up.

    A2Dp would work, maybe even a speakerphone function. Have the dock house the speakers and use BT to direct the audio or phone calls thru the speaker, though with a phone call the dock would have to have a mic too. Its a weird concept, though. I am used to using BT devices over a distance. Keep the phone in a bag and use BT headphones to listen to music or a headset to make/receive phone calls. It is odd to put a device into a dock and then use BT to communicate with the dock in which the phone sits.

    Maybe the bluetooth will be used to transfer files to/from the phone without having to dock it directly? Audio out ports would be a nice touch without the need to go through the computer. It may have the ability to turn the phone into a remote for controling media files on the computer without the need for a software app like Gmote.

    It would be interesting if they combined a power mat with bluetooth so you can wirelessly charge and connect to your computer via USB by sitting the phone on top of it.

    @Lyndon and Eugene
    Using BT to connect to your computer is a good idea, having it function as a wireless charger too is even better.
