Nexus 7 update: GameStop launch in effect, Ebuyer starts shipping
A few hours ago we told you that the Google Nexus 7 tablet may be due today. We have even showed you proof that some pre-orders are supposed to be delivered today, at least according to emails received by at least one Nexus 7 buyer and now we have further updates for you.
Our readers have jumped in to tell us that Ebuyer is already shipping the tablet in the UK, even though we previously heard the Nexus 7 was supposed to be launched only next week. Moreover, other readers said that GameStop has received Nexus 7 stock and that it’s now allowed to sell it.
We have been able to confirm both reports, so the good news, for some of you, is that you’ll be getting your Nexus 7 tablet at some point today. The bad news is that you’ll be getting it tomorrow or in the following days. What seems to be sort of a major problem so far is Google’s inability to better control the launch – granted though, it’s the delivery companies that are actually handling the shipping.
A lucky UK Nexus 7 buyer posted on reddit an image of his or her new tablet – see picture above. And just as expected, the device was purchased on Ebuyer.
Moreover, Tech Hog managed to score some screenshots (above and below) that prove the fact Google has given GameStop the go ahead to sell the Nexus 7. The screenshots are also revealing instructions from corporate offices – among those you can clearly see the odd requirement of changing the price from $99,999 to the correct $249 for the 16GB Nexus 7 version.
According to the same screenshots, GameStop will be receiving by July 13 (today) enough Nexus 7 stock to cover for all pre-orders taken on or before July 11. Orders posted on July 12 will apparently be fulfilled in the following days as GameStop stores are going to receive “an allocation of Google Nexus 7 tablets by Tuesday 7/17” to cover for those.
We’ll be back with more details once we have them, meanwhile keep us posted on your Nexus 7 delivery. Is it there yet?
