Nexus 7 now available directly from the Google Play Store in India!

It’s been a long time coming, too long if you ask me, but Indian consumers can finally buy the Google Nexus 7 directly from the Google Play Store! After the Indian Play Store recently added the availability of books (movies and magazines are still not available), it now looks like Nexus devices have also been added to the list. I say devices, but for now, only the Google Nexus 7 shows up.

It may have been a while since you’ve last thought about the Nexus 7, so here’s a quick look at the specifications –

  • 7-inch IPS display with 1280×800 resolution
  • 1.2 Ghz quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB internal storage, no microSD slot
  • 1.2MP front camera
  • 4,325 mAh battery
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean (upgradable to Android 4.2)

For now, only the 16GB WiFi only version of the 7-inch tablet is available on the Google Play Store, but hopefully the 32GB and 3G version of the device will also make its way to Indian shores officially soon. The Nexus 7 is priced at Rs 15,999 (~$300) and will ship by April 5.

The Google Nexus 7 has been around for a while, so why am I so excited? Because this means that Nexus devices will finally be officially available in India from the Google Play Store itself! With the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 being some of the most popular devices in the country, even though they are sold only through unofficial channels, this is definitely a great move on the part of Google.

If you’re interested in picking up the Nexus 7, you can head on over to the listing here.

What are your thoughts? Will you be picking up the Google Nexus 7 now that it is officially available from the Google Play Store? Are you excited about the possibility of more Nexus devices making its way to India soon? Let us know in the comments section below.

50% more costlier than in US, what does Google &/ Asus think? Is India a dump yard or they just plain old fools? If Taxes & other similar stuffs is the reason for this then they need to negotiate more n reduce the cost as INDIA is a huge market they need to properly set the devices costs…

    • Rohit Abraham Jose

please explain how to negotiate and with whom???

    • what is stuffs?

The Us price with delivery is 230 us dollars.
Add transport and customs duty of 16% on tablets
And Google isn’t making much more than they do in the US

I imported one from the USA and paid nearly the same amount

    • 15999 INR ~ 294 USD
1.You do realize that this is just around 17%
2.Share your unhappiness with the Indian government for the high taxes and customs.
3.How much do you expect Google & Asus to reduce the prices too? I don’t see any other decent tablet in India priced below ~21000 INR.

Though it’s late, this a sign of things to come.

  • 3G Version

Not buying this version. Wanted the 3G version. How do I surf the web using this when I am travelling? Hope they release the 3G version in next month.

      Wi-Fi tethering ?

  • By the way an interesting battle is going on here

Vote for Note 2, if you find it the better phone

  • Bough from USA 18400 Taka or 12790.70rupees. If this is the actual price well it’s way to pricey for me. Glad that bought it from USA. BTW by any chance if Nexus 7 does comes to bangladesh it should remain in the 18000-19000 taka margin.

  • Why is google dumping garbage in India? Do they think India z a dumpyard? The next gen tablet is due in may and google brings its old tablet after 1 yr and dat too at a steep price. Google – get your act together , if you really want to launch products , launch it at the right time and right price..
