LG Nexus 4

The Nexus 4 is arguably one of the finest Android smartphones ever made, and it is now available at a shockingly low price point. In India the Nexus 4 has a cult like following with a huge demand despite the higher prices than the US.

At a price that’s better than what most consumers have to pay to sign a new contract that locks them in for two years, the Nexus 4 is an unbelievable value.

Unbelievable price.

Screen Shot 2013-08-27 at 6.40.31 PMIf you’re on the fence about the latest crop of super high end 1080p devices, then worry not, for the Nexus 4 could be a perfect fit to tide you over for the next little bit. While the Nexus 4 is not the most durable device to come across our desks, it still stands the test of time because of the beautiful combination of the freshest, direct updates from Google, and great hardware assembled and manufactured by LG. It is the marriage of these two elements together that make it great. And at $199 it’s almost too good to pass up.

And for those of you that have recently purchased the Nexus 4 within the previous two weeks, fret not. Google has been kind enough to offer consumers ‘price protection’ to refund the difference.

There’s also some great news for those of you not in the US, too. The official Google Play Twitter account (irony, anyone?) has just confirmed that there will be price drops of 25% off ‘or more’ in Australia, Canada, Germany, Spain, Korea, and the UK.

Nexus 4 Review

The real question is why can’t other manufacturers create devices that offer such an impressive mix of great experience, hardware / build quality and value? Anyone?

  • Lisandro O Oocks

Almost makes me wanna by me a second one.

    • Luka Mlinar

      Backup ? :D

    • Bryan Z

Seriously, I already have one and I’m mins away from buying a second one because it’s so good

  • Tamadrummer94

It’s not a great phone by any means, but at that price it’s light years ahead of any other phone in value. I feel those rash consumer urges tingling…

    • You probably don’t even own it, so your comment is just silly. This is by far one of the best Android devices to date…take notes.

      • prolifik2k3

Agreed! My last one drowned and I just bought another about a week back even tho it’s almost a year old. It’s my favorite and can only potentially be replaced by the N5.

        • Maxim∑

          Its a future proof phone

    • ViperSaga_ROM_User

You’re either a troll or don’t really know how good the N4 is.

      • Tamadrummer94

The camera is bad, no LTE, 8 GB, and many people I know say the battery life is lacking. Some minor build quality quirks too.

        • El_Goog

          Camera: OK.
No LTE: There is a way to enable it.
8GB: There is also one with 16GB storage FYI
Battery life: As far as I see people on G+ are pretty happy with the battery life.
Quality: Haven’t heard anyone complaining about it.

          • Maxim∑

Camera:good, not so good in low light with HDR off
No LTE: Does not matter average DL speed is 21Mbps on XDA
Storage: 16GB enough but 32 is coming probably :)

Battery: Decent, MUCH better on CM 10.1.2
            Quality:Excellent for a Android Smartphone

        • John

Don’t get all mad at us because your mom won’t buy you one.

        • stucrmnx120fshwf

Also no FHD screen, good processor, RAM, GPU though, at that price very tempted.

        • Adie

Just buy a 32gb flash drive and a OTG USB cable to solve your storage worries.

  • Marsg

If I wasn’t on Verizon I would buy one, at that price its a steal.

    • gt620

Will the nexus 5 be available on Verizon?

      • Marsg

Hope so don’t see why not, the new Nexus 7 is usable on all 4 major carriers in the U.S. The only reason I can think of it not coming to Verizon would be a deal between them and Google, the Nexus 5 would hurt Verizon sales.

        • Nickan Fayyazi

It may be possible, but I wouldn’t be so sure. Verizon royally screwed up with the Galaxy Nexus and Google hasn’t forgotten.

          • Marsg

Yea but they aren’t dealing with Verizon since the Nexus devices are sold unlocked directly from the store and not through Verizon, the only person this is hurting is the Verizon users. The only company I can think of that doesn’t want Verizon customers to have a cheap unlocked device especially since they are trying to get all the unlimited data users to upgrade their device and loose their unlimited is Verizon themselves. If all the unlimited data users bought the Nexus 4 then they could keep their plans and not loose unlimited in the end it would hurt Verizon sales.

    • Buy it, and switch to T-Mobile Prepaid. Many options. $30 100 mins, unlimited data (5GB), and unlimited text. Or $70 for unlimited, no caps.

      • John

Can you free tether on the 70$ plan? I’ve been trying the Solavei unlimited 49/mo plan w N4 and so far its OK but no free tether..thnx

        • You can root and add it…

          • John

So you and Maxim are basically saying Tmobile doesn’t allow free tethering but there are workarounds..Ive heard about that PdaNet+ app supposedly being pretty good? I’m not too sure about rooting..my luck & I’ll break something. Think I may try the 70$ route & see if it’s better than Solavei.

        • Maxim∑

Yes, I am on tmobiles 30$ plan on my Nexus 4 and tether all the time. Its free

  • Rooney-

Damn man!! Wish google offerd the same in india :(

    • Balraj

Google doesn’t sell it in India
      Lg does.. :-)

      • Rooney-

thats why i said ” wish google offered the same in india”.

    • Chirabrata Bhattarjee

In India it will be 25999….shit..

      • Rooney-

        It already rs24k-rs25k buddy.

        • Chirabrata Bhattarjee

I mean it will remain same.

      • Maxim∑

        isnt that like 350$?

    • Piyush

yeah dude me too waiting for price down.

      • Rooney-

LG will never cut the price dude.

        • Piyush

and rupee is also weak (1$ = 69rs) , so chances are more low now.

          • Rooney-

OMG!! Close to Rs.70!! Cant even dream of it then!

          • End in sight

Wow. 69? I’ve got to get over to India and spend some US dollars! That is a lot for the dollar.

If I bring some of these phones with me, maybe I can still them out of my suitcase?

          • Piyush

Nah , i have seen electronic item never increase their price even if their is inflation , for eg at 2001 a highend laptop use to cost 1lakh rs and at 2013 highend laptop still cost 1lakh rs.

  • Balraj

Google is making way for the nexus 5 ;-)
    No surprises here lol

  • Mohammed

That nice to here but how about France ?

    • Maxim∑

I think google is just clearing the inventory for the Nexus 5. I do not expect this to be permanent or last long because I do not think google is making any profit right now.

Not sure why it can be purchased in the UK but not France, kinda weird

  • Adie

Can anyone please ship one for me to India ? -_- I can paypal you

    • Rooney-

Make it two in that case.

    • sure, if you buy me one too :)

  • Peter Streinu

Nexus 4 is an excellent android smartphone. Go for!

  • Huzaifa Fazal

this probably indicates a nexus 5 will be coming for the same price the nexus 4 came for (fingers crossed)

    • End in sight

Let’s hope so. The nexus 4 is nice but too heavy compared to s4 and moto x. Ill wait for nexus 5.

  • aai534

  • David Peterson

Would it be worth switching from a Galaxy S3 to this?

My main concerns would be comparable camera and battery performance. Pretty sure I could sell the GS3 and get enough to cover the 16GB N4 … worth it or just sit tight for a N5 or used GS4?

  • Avgvstvs

    Why is this “shocking?”

    • Maxim∑

Because its a High end smartphone for 199$ off contract. Its shocking

  • Avgvstvs

Every time someone says it’s “Shocking”, it isnt..

  • Avgvstvs

And as a result, you get my hopes up..and it’s a shoulder shrug at BEST.

  • Avgvstvs

So it’s not shocking..it’s a meh at best.

  • Avgvstvs

And as much respect for Google as I have, there is a lot left to be desired with the Nexus, including a god damn bigger screen and battery life.

    • Maxim∑

yeah 4.7in is WAY to small I agree, The perfect size for a phone I think is 7-9in maybe 10in for people with big hands.

and 2100mah battery is really small to, at least they could include a 240000mah battery it would only take a month to charge to

  • hey

If this phone had a micro SD CARD I would happily buy it

  • L.A.B.

Hello! So I bought the nexus 4 full price on August 11, order processed on August 12.. Which was 1 day behind the price protection period!! However, there is a special caveat you can raise if you are an unfortunate SOB like me.. they also have a 15 day return policy program from the date the day the phone was delivered… so “technically”, I can return my phone for a full refund, and buy a new phone for $110 less! When I raised up that special issue, they returned and told me I’m within price protection and the price protection date is now officially August 8th! woohoo! My friend recorded a video of me and you can clearly hear the guy say i’m within the time frame.. let’s hope I get that $110.. otherwise I have until Sept. 4 to return my EXPENSIVE ASS NEXUS!!

  • Brains

That’s a price I wanna get one for the whole family if i had the cash right now. Unfortunately i’m only getting one for me and my mom right now( her sony play just broke).

  • ej

    Like to have one myself.

  • Deepak Dhawan
