Nexus 4 backordered: units expected to ship ‘within three weeks,’ Google says

by: Chris SmithNovember 15, 2012

LG Nexus 4

Earlier today we told you that some lucky Nexus 4 buyers have received shipping confirmations via email, while others, not as lucky, are being told that their precious Nexus 4 will ship at some point in the following three weeks.

In that latter category is our own Joshua Muñoz, who received the same terrible news from Google”:

Thank you for your recent purchase on Google Play. Due to overwhelming demand, your Nexus 4 is on backorder and is expected to ship within three weeks. We’ll send you a notification when your order has shipped and will credit the shipping charges.

Like him, other Nexus 4 buyers will have to wait a few more weeks to get their hands on the fourth-generation Google smartphone.

We have no idea how widespread this issue is. How many Nexus 4 buyers out there have received the bad news? How many Nexus 4 units have been sold to date? Google has sold out its initial Nexus 4 stock in various markets, but it’s yet to report sales numbers. And it’s yet to explain why some buyers will not get the Nexus 4 in the following business days, or why it continued to take orders once it knew the initial stock was depleted.

Of course, you can always cancel your order with Google and try to purchase the handset from a different source, either by going to T-Mobile or by checking out eBay and Craigslist.

Let’s hear it from happy and angry customers, are you receiving your Nexus 4 in the following days or in the following weeks?

Atleast they know they’ll get it. Other countries have absolutely no guarantee. (pricewise that is)

  • Maxrun

This is ridiculous Google. The only thing I’m being compensated for is my shipping cost? I think you guys should also eat the tax or at least send me a free bumper case. I felt lucky and ecstatic when I actually managed to place an order for the Nexus and got an email confirming it would ship in 3-5 days, and now this… you bastards. How was google not anticipating this? End rant.

Could be worse. You could have to wait 3 whole weeks or longer just to have the order placed. Then who knows when the rest of us will get it. You will still get yours by the end of November. Anyone else is looking to wait until the end of December or early January by the looks of things. :-(

    Received mine this afternoon..

What city or state are you in? And around what time did you place your order on Tuesday?

      • Stephen Smith

City? State?! Ordered in the U.K at 8:37 AM – Had a few issues having to refresh but everything worked out in the end.

I ordered it in the first three minutes after it started selling online (8:33am Tuesday) and now (2:45pm Thursday) my order is still pending. A inquiry to Google just returned an automated message saying “Orders are shipped within two business days of placing your order, and will be delivered upon two additional business days of processing.”

I’m in the same boat as u. Suppose to ship today (11/15) and it just says processing. Kinda pissed because I wanted it on Saturday. But at least we still have hope ours will be shipped sooner than later.

Restricted supply high demand, if they didn’t do this they wouldn’t of had all this publicity, they pulled an Apple stunt but to a higher degree, just tapping into the psychology of the consumer because people always want things that they can’t have. My marketing degree went to good use there…. :)

    • watphuc

even a monkey can figure that out

  • john

bought one in France a few minutes after it started selling and I received the backorder mail this evening. enraging :-[

  • David Rutla

I’m pissed because I ordered mines around 11-12 I forget but around there…placed my damn order only to see I’m backordered and my fat bastard for a friend and his sister ordered four. Two to sell and two for themselves at 3:30 and got theirs Google ? Cancelling my order and getting the Lumia

    • jeremy

I get your mad, but why a lumia. Lol get a phone equally as good. You’d be better with a Galaxy s3 or even a Galaxy Nexus with 4.2……

  • leoingle

Google sucks for this small supply and all these douchebags buying 4 at a time to sell i hope go to hell and burn.

    • Barbicide

      Preach it brother!

  • Mansoor Khan

Looks like Google wanted to be a maverick in trying to distribute its own hardware and has failed miserably, screwed royally. Thanks google for ruining my whole day. Next time, just get LG or whoever is the partner you’re working with to do the distribution. Talking to your customer reps is also a joke. They’re clueless, spitting out stadard lines like: “I can understand your situation….”. Please help them to be more humane and not talk like a bunch of “androids” trying to learn good customer service.

Here’s a thought Google: As much as I like the Nexus 4 and its specs, the only reason I was anxious to see it get launched was my hope that the Galaxy Nexus would go on sale (since I – like many others I’m sure – can’t afford to spend $349).
Yet for some inexplicable reason, you took it right off the Play Store once you announced the Nexus 4. I’m sure you must still be sitting on a stockpile of Galaxy Nexi, so why not put those back up for sale while you wait for a new batch of 4s? At say $199? I’ll guarantee you those things will sell out pretty damn fast. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who was playing the waiting game to get a Galaxy Nexus at a discounted price. Just do it!
