Multi-touch demo

Luke Hutchison dropped us a note recently telling us that he has managed to reveal the inherent multi-touch capabilities of the T-Mobile G1′s display without having to rebuild and replace the device’s original kernel.

He has even managed to find a way that other developers could take advantage of it in apps through the existing API, even though such applications would only run on devices with his patched Java stack.

This isn’t, by any means, a project for normal users, and it wouldn’t offer them any functionality they don’t already have, but it is a cleaner demonstration of the G1′s multi-touch capability than we have seen before.

If you want to hear all of the very gory details, head on over to Luke’s website for more information.  If you’d rather just see the demo of it working, check out the video below:

I’m still not sure if I should get the Android or the iPhone. With the multitouch feature, I see room for better apps than the iPhone. There was an app for my Sentry Safe that allowed me to backup my contacts and files onto my secure media with the iPhone. Pretty cool, but I have yet to see any type of apps like that for the android.
