Motorola’s Motoluxe low-end Android-based smartphone was unveiled in January and hit Europe in late February without creating much fuss, making us all think that it would end up ignored by most tech users worldwide.

However, the handheld must’ve been doing something right on the Old Continent, because it has just been announced as officially coming to Canada. With no exact release date or pricing attached to its name, the Motoluxe will certainly be looking to charm those of you who are on a tight budget.

The 4-incher sports a TFT FWVGA display with 480 x 854 pixels resolution and is powered by an 800 MHz Qualcomm MSM processor with an Adreno 200 GPU. Suspected to hit Bell’s and Virgin Mobile’s shelves “before the end of June”, this little guy will unfortunately only run Android 2.3 Gingerbread out of the box (with no planned ICS upgrade) and will feature 512 MB of RAM, 1 GB of on-board storage, and an 8 MP rear-facing camera.

Those are certainly not the kind of features to make the phone a high-end device (aside from the camera), but the pricing should be Motoluxe’s biggest ace up its sleeve. We have no way to know at this point exactly how cheap will the handheld be, but if the device’s price in Europe is any indication, I would guess it will cost  in Canada as less as $225-$250, with no carrier agreement.

As far as the phone possibly coming to the United States, we have nothing to report at this time, but it’s not impossible that we’ll be treated with a US launch announcement in the near future.

You can check out Moto’s full press release announcing the phone’s launch in Canada below, and, for additional details about pricing, stay tuned on our website in the following weeks! In the meantime, tell us if you’ll put the phone on top of your summer shopping list. Also, would you US tech enthusiasts ever be interested in purchasing such a modest gadget?

MOTOLUXE™ Smartphone to Launch in Canada

Easy, fun user experience packed into a best-in- class design

April 30, 2012

TORONTO – April 30, 2012 – The new MOTOLUXE by Motorola Mobility Canada Ltd. keeps you entertained and connected with a dynamic new interface that learns what you like and adapts to help you do tasks faster, providing unique and seamless access to content that is relevant to you. The Android–powered smartphone sets the bar high with its elegant design and a unique multi-coloured LED notification light so you can easily keep track of incoming calls, texts or e-mails. With a 4-inch touchscreen that’s perfect for surfing the web and watching movies, you’ll have fun and stay connected – whether hanging out with friends or out on the town.

MOTOLUXE features a lively new interface that learns who you talk to and which apps you use and keeps all of that information front and center. The Social Graph feature gives you easy and fast access to the people who really matter. It learns who’s most important to you and uses that knowledge to populate the home screen. The more frequently you communicate with someone, the bigger their icon becomes. The Activity Graph focuses on your app habits, automatically changing to reflect the apps you use the most. With Music+, you can easily play your favourite music, while the Smart Gallery displays your favourite pictures as collections.

“With its stylish design and media features, MOTOLUXE is the perfect smartphone to complement our busy lives,” said David Petrou, sales director, Motorola Mobility Canada. “Not only does MOTOLUXE have the power of Android, it also has a fun, adaptive and easy-to-use user interface, a big vibrant screen and a sharp camera to help you capture your everyday life.”

The unique multi-coloured LED indicator sets MOTOLUXE apart by letting you easily see when you’ve missed a call, have a message waiting or your battery is low. MOTOLUXE’s 8-megapixel autofocus camera with flash lets you shoot like a pro and share your favourite shots instantly, a bonus for mobile upload fanatics.

When you’re on the go, MOTOLUXE’s GPS technology will point you in the right direction and make sure you get to where the action is. If that isn’t enough, the smartphone is Bluetooth®-enabled, and gives you access to Google Play where you’ll find thousands of games, apps, books and movies.
